FIFA president Gianni Infantino has sent a letter to Pol Gen Somyot Poompanmoung, president of the Football Association of Thailand (FAT), inviting the 12 footballers of the Moo Pa Academy football team and their coach to attend the 2018 World Cup final in Moscow after they are brought out to safety from Tham Luang cave where they have been stranded since June 23.

In the letter, dated July 5, 2018, the FIFA present wrote:

“We have been anxiously following the news of the rescue operation in the search for 12 young footballers and their coach in the flooded cave in northern Thailand’s Chiang Rai province since 23 June 2018 and are now greatly relieved to hear the good news that they have been found by the rescue team.

“On behalf of the international football community, I would like to join you in expressing my deepest sympathies and support to the families of the players and coach, as well as my solidarity with the people of Thailand at this time of great concern.”

It's a bit premature, first let's hope the 13 will be out of the cave safe and sound soon

One of the 13 was pictured in an England shirt, so he obviously needs to be there to cheer the team onto victory.

The timing (etc.) is just a teeny bit on the optimistic side. Even if they all were rescued today (which they're not) they will need a stay in the hospital, to get passports, etc. etc. Nice PR gesture though.

For frog's sake- get them out and THEN invite them to whatever!

As things stand now, it is not even remotely certain, they will be out of the damn cave, come Final Day!

People should stop jumping the froggin' bandwagon now!

Way too early , even if they get out of the cave within a few days , they are not ready to travel anywhere , they probably never been outside Thailand before.

They need to stay with their family and healing will take a long time .

It's a lovely gesture.

I'm sure even if the couldn't go, just being invited would be a real boost for their team.

I just wish it could be over and they would all be safe again.

So sad about the diver.

That would truly be Hollywood ending - I sincerely hope that it all works out okay and has such a happy ending.

A movie is a foregone conclusion and i like your ending

first of all, its a tragedy, 2nd its a human error, OK it happens but, the consequences costing a decent man his life and Thai gov a lot of hassle and drama. Hopefully all 13 are out soon. but they should not be rewarded for their costly adventure at all. world cup final! really! they should be with their families and learn from this.
