Or do you communicate in pigeon language, relying on her as the filter of your daily experience in Thailand? Is it a deep, loving relationship or merely contractual?

You better have an exit plan back to your home country in case things go pear shaped. Coups, war, illness, no money, crossing the wrong person. Stay away from balconies! And do you really want end up in a Thai government hospital, with doctors and nurses who can’t understand you, exposed to bacteria and outdated methods?

Unfortunately this is the schlock the Thai media promotes, all the time. In case you have not heard. The idea that farang are walking around expecting social status and all. It is most definitely a strange view and one rather alien to foreigners who live here. Then Check the thainess rant.
 

You should read it again and then ask yourself … did I buy a condo here? Rent never buy especially in a country that puts out stuff like this for the masses of their citizens.

If the writer is British he/she needs to have a good look at the city hospitals in that country. If American then look at Thailands health system with awe. The locals here do far better than many in the USA. My government hospital treatment and dental care has been pretty good considering the prices.

Perhaps you need to go check it out for yourself, although I do hear they are not so good at mental illness. Try keeping out the sun.

One valid point in the OP, get yourself a back up plan in case of unforeseen events. This is a good piece of advice that quite a few overlook. I have invested a fair amount here, all in the wife's name. I could afford to walk away but to what ?

That is why I have banked 30k GBP, with another 20k to go in by the end of the year. Buying a rental property in U.K to keep for a rainy day ?
