'Mine has been most hard-working post-coup government in Thai history,' PM claims

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Tuesday claimed that his had been the most hard-working post-coup government in Thai history, and one that had achieved a lot for the country.

While speaking with a group of veteran actors and singers who had called on him at Government House, General Prayut also denied he was trying to retain power, although he did not reject speculation over his perceived political ambition to return as government head after the next general election.

“I don’t want to retain power. I have never benefited from being prime minister. I am not a business owner, so I have no need to seek benefits. I am satisfied with what I already have,” he said.

Prayut, who also heads the ruling junta, the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), boasted about the performance of his government, which was formed a few months after the 2014 coup that he led while serving as Army chief.

“Of all the post-coup administrations in the past, did they work like mine? My government keeps developing. Foreign countries praise us. No other developing countries have been able to achieve what we have done. This is what I want, for you to share this pride with me,” the PM told his visitors.

He also said that as the NCPO head, he was being investigated in 400 cases.

“I am not scared by the investigations. I am sincere about my work,” he insisted, without elaborating about any of the cases.

"Mine has been most hard-working post-coup government in Thai history,' PM claims."

"Mine have been most hard-working post-coup genitals in Thai history,' SB claims."

Which of the statements above are true? Both? Neither? Is there any way to tell in Thailand today? Is there accountability? Transparency? A free media?

"“...I don’t want to retain power. I have never benefited from being prime minister. I am not a business owner, so I have no need to seek benefits. I am satisfied with what I already have,” he said..."

Er... Ahem... Oh... Er... What do you have? And how exactly did you get it? Does the NACC know? Do the Thai people know?

"...Foreign countries praise us. No other developing countries have been able to achieve what we have done..."

Er... Ahem... Which foreign countries praise you? I don't know of any... Could you be specific? And, er... actually, many many developing countries have achieved much much more than Thailand. Have you not heard of the "Tigers"? Taiwan. Singapore. S Korea? Etc?

"...He also said that as the NCPO head, he was being investigated in 400 cases. “I am not scared by the investigations. I am sincere about my work,” he insisted, without elaborating about any of the cases..."

400 cases? And you have immunity for each and every one? And an 'old friend' as head of the NACC? And a NACC which has already demonstrated in the General Rolex case that it can be...er...  "relied upon"? A NACC that somehow never arrests or charges you or your allies? It is... er... ahem... remarkable bravery that you are not scared. Well done!

Why does this get into a newspaper?

Perhaps, but working to what end?  And just how much are they getting paid for their efforts?  Are any up front salaries for any of them disclosed any place publicly?

For him to be speaking about huge 'efforts' and 'hard work' (yeah, right!) at the very time that a fantastically brave bunch of guys were sweating and toiling their guts out and risking their very lives to save those 13 young footballers - is downright obscene, and again displays a complete lack of tact, sensitivity and humanity.

Modest too. But then again he has a lot to be modest about.

The moral of the story then is the harder you work the more acceptable the coup?

Plenty of practice, 19?, but still not getting it right.

The next coupmasters must obviously work harder.

Or jealousy that the spotlight is not on him.

Quick, hide the pictures of the NLA members fast asleep at work. Better still slap a charge of sedition on anyone sharing or posting them. We all know why there is so little criticism of you, its been made illegal.

If you are clean, you do not need to scare any investigation and is not necessary to remember always the peoples about.

Well, it certainly has stuck around longer than most...

  • Popular Post

Therefore, is he sayinbg that all past coups were useless administrations?...sounds right, but excluding himself and his generals from these accusations is delusionary

They've certainly been hard at work drafting legislation that enables them to maintain control of the country.

I'd say the FIRST military coup was the most hard-working post-coup government as none ever preceded it! It totally changed Thai governance that essentially remains unchanged today.

As far as "in Thai history," 800 years of history preceded the first military coup.

Well on some fronts Prayut has that right.

Especially when it came to post-coup elected government administrations, none were as demonized and politically attacked as by Prayut's regime.

Actually, you can´t take that away from him.

However, it´s the result the counts, right? Result: Suppression of freedom to speak. Building a secure foundation to control the country in the future disregarding election outcome. Controlling investigations regarding their own, and hunt the life out of the popular person that might rise aganst them. And of course much much more.

If you read the things above, then you must draw the conclusion that this takes a hell of a lot of time and effort. Thoose two components is what´s in general talk called hard work.

Hard working is all in the mind of his, as Time Magazine put it, dictator values. Most restricting, most intolerant, most in this case is not a positive for the Big Head Cheese

Cause it is bloody hard work Col. How would you like to steal millions and hide it from the public and hold a straight face? Oh boy this guy would stand out in a circus as a clown telling jokes:cheesy:

Accept this at face value.

There's a lot of very hard Graft going on. I believe him.

I am not a business owner, so I have no need to seek benefits. I am satisfied with what I already have,” he said.

Fair enough, now explains its origin and we will move on.
