Kalasin police arrest three of five men who abducted woman in "brazen" attack

Police in Kalasin have made three quick arrests of a gang of five that dragged a woman from her car near the governor's residence on Tuesday night.

 

The attack was caught on CCTV.

 

The woman - identified only as "A", 26, - was dragged off by the hair to a godown where calls were made by the gang to her mother and father and relatives demanding 350,000 baht.

 

Arrested yesterday along with a quantity of Ya Ba were three suspects - Manasak Udomphan, 23, Surasak Janpheng, 20 and Thanarat Phuchokechai, 23.

 

They said they abducted the woman after getting into debt over drug payments.

Two more men are being sought.

 

Kalasin governor called the attack "brazen". It happened near his home by the Suphat Hotel.

 

The victim was believed to have been chased and was trying to seek refuge at the home of the governor or the police station nearby when two vehicles were used to stop her and take her away at knife point.

The answer it seems is 5.

This article doesn't say whether the young woman was found and released. Was she harmed? Is she still held by the two outlaws on the run? Was ransom paid? Pretty sketchy reporting.

The Daily News article has a lot more detail. She's safe, no ransom paid. Pretty good police work overall.
