small stream coming out of Aircon

Featured Replies

All of a sudden it started and a lot of water.

Light nevertheless green . Aircon has been running smoothly for hours.

Last time this occurred service didn't know the source but stopped it anyhow. It's a Toshiba, number not visible. Do they do service here in CNX?

I kept it running on blower only until the last drop was out.

There is no water "source" other than naturally occuring condensation. Check the drain line is not clogged up....

Yeah, it's condensation.

Get your local aircon man (a different one I suggest) to clean out the drain tube and clean the indoor and outdoor units. It will likely improve the cooling efficiency as well.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

I had the same thing about a year ago from the bedroom air-con.

Was so bad I had to put a pail full of towels under it (to absorb the water and the noise).

The air-con crew found that a pump of some kind wasn't pushing the water into the drain tube. As a result it was just collecting in the tray until it overflowed.

Wasn't an expensive repair and only took them about 15 minutes I think it was.

Haven't had a problem since. (It has only happened in the one air-con of the 3 in the house. It's also the newest one but it's the one that gets used the most).

Also, pretty much any of the local air-con installation/servicing companies can fix that. It seems there's one every couple of blocks or so in my neighbourhood (Nong Prue) so it's probably the same in your neck of the woods.

Much depends on air quality, whcih can clog filters and such. Had a similar problem, a simple cleaning was insufficient ... the external cooler and inside distributor had to be thoroughly cleaned out -- took nearly two full days worth of work -- this was in KL, Malaysia, for rented busy-street front two story duplex , second floor bedroom. Inside filters always blackened, pump filled with crud,  external cooler also filled with thick black crusted crud from years of neglect and exposure. Required a new inside distributor and refurbished external cooler ...

Had the same problem to with mine. Towel and all on the floor...  took some time for the technician to clear the drain line .  actually it took  2 visits as after the first cleaning the drain clogged again after a few weeks.

All sorts of "things" (both animal and plant) can take up residence in the drain and cause it to re-clog quickly. A good glug of undiluted bleach down the pipe after cleaning can discourage a recurrence.

Talk to Thai people. Get man to clean, they use water sprayer and have heavy duty bag to drain dirty water outside. Cost 600 to 800 THB. I had done. AC needs cleaning every 2 years.

2 things can cause water.

First is as others have mentioned a clogged condensate line.  You should check where it drains outside and see if it is clogged there, if so use a wire or something to unclog it.

Second is low refrigerant levels.  It will cause the coil to ice up.

If you can't unclog the line yourself you will need to call someone to do maintenance on it.  I have mine done twice a year, 500 baht per unit.

If you live in Ratchaburi I highly recommend this guy,  เผือก (Puak), 0804241568.  But he does not speak English.

You should also check and clean the filters in the inside unit every month.  You can take them out and vacuum or rinse with water.

I spray my AC evaporator by bleach every six months. Then spray it by water to wash away the bleach. There will be light scent of bleach for first night after cleaning, but it becomes like a new evaporator after washing by bleach. Bleach will clean the drain tube as well.

You got robbed. We just had 3 a c's cleaned with pressure spray and bag like you say for 1000 baht for 3. In Chingmai.

DYI,  I have a vacuum cleaner that will suck water.   I take it outside and hold he vacuum tube clamped tight with my hand on the AC drain pipe.  That will suck out the water and the impurities blocking the drain pipe.    Have done this many times with full success. Worth a try?.

it you can put your mouth on it, just blow in a bit, and it will be enough to send it gushing out.  If not, a condom full of air will do.  If on a ground level, a small piece of mesh screen over the drain end can prevent this.  OTOH, if the line isn't sloping down, you got bigger trouble.  The guys with the bags were at my apartment a few months ago.  Pretty neat, but I found a fan bearing paying in the hallway..oops, extra parts.

Also, don't buy into the pressure washing myth..it destroys the electrolytic bond between the coil and fins.  There is a much lower pressure washer specifically for a/,c that is more like a garden hose flow, but is portable and has a water tank.  By no means should you use ,one that you would use for paint prep..or degreasing, and spray from inside out on the condensing unit.  Helped my parents sell their house last year..original 23 year old a/c, never touched by a tachnician..just common sense maintenance, and never "topped up with gas.,". Near Jungle Warfare training center for USMC, so not some fair weather place.

We have three aircons and get them serviced every 6 months, with the very high humidity at the moment there will be a more or less constant trickle of water.

Yes but that trickle should be outside the building...not down the wall onto the TV and parquet floor ! [emoji1]
