A 40-year-old former contract teacher, who claimed to have memory of her previous life as a soldier who had taken many lives, was found dead by hanging in an apparent suicide at her parents’ home in Suphan Buri province on Sunday morning, police said.

The suicide report of Somkid Ridkanto in Tambon Sa Kaew, Muang district said she had been dead two hours before her body was found under a mango tree within the house compound.

A suicide note by her apologising to her parents for not being able to help take care of them was found in the house.

Somkid’s mother, Somjai Ridkanto, 64, said her daughter used to work as a contract teacher and had resigned to work in a factory. After she divorced her husband, Somkid moved back to stay with her parents but later suffered severe headaches that deterred her from getting a job.

Somjai said her daughter had told her she wished to die to repay for her previous sins. Her daughter had told her she had memories of her previous life as a soldier who had killed many people, and that their spirits were now after her. She was taken to seek mental health treatment and when her condition improved, she returned home. Somjai said she had no inkling of what was to follow that day when her daughter prostrated in front of her on Saturday evening.

Police suspected that Somkid had committed suicide due to stress over her inability to provide for her parents and her belief that she must die to pay for her previous life’s sins.

The medical examiner inspected the body and after the suicide report, police released her body.

For once it seems the religious mumbo-jumbo wasn't seen as genuine, hence taken for mental evaluation. Sad she died though.

Very sad.

Seems she didn't realise that suicide was also regardedas a sin.

I have no idea if Buddhism sees it as a sin?

I had to resort to wiki, which says that:

"For Buddhists, since the first precept is to refrain from the destruction of life, including one's self, suicide is seen as a negative act. If someone commits suicide in anger, he may be reborn in a sorrowful realm due to negative final thoughts.Nevertheless, Buddhism does not condemn suicide without exception"

Suicide is a greater sin. That was a quick or easy way to escape but actually it is not.Imagine how many of us will go if we think about our past sins.Best is to do good or at least volunteer for charity works if 1 does not have financial means.

She was just sick and needed help...RIP Teacher!

Yes, I agree but also spare a thought for the kiddies she was probably influencing as well.  Very sad but  there are a lot of people teaching here who are emotionally unsuitable and wreak all sorts of havoc.

Religion.. the gift that keeps giving.

H.L.Mencken said that religion was the greatest fomenter of hatred and bloodshed the world has ever seen.  Aparently includes self hatred.  I never thought of that before.

Poor woman must have been suffering from very deep depression. According to the WHO 800,000 people commit suicide from depression every year.  My condolences to her family.
