Power cut to Thai village as troublesome "tiger head hornets" banished

 

 

A pest eradication team were called to a Lampang village after what the Thais call "Tiger Head Hornets" built a large nest on some power poles.

 

Sanook found the nest at the entrance to Ban Thung Kham.

 

Lots of people had been stung recently including children and the hornets had been particularly meddlesome to patrons dining at a nearby noodle shop.

 

In order for the risk of injury to be lessened electrical engineers also on the scene decided to tell everyone in the village that their power would be off for 15 minutes.

 

Then the pest team got to work with a gasoline soaked rag on the end of a bamboo pole.

 

Sanook said that the nest had measured 50cm by 30cm and was 30 cm thick. It started off small but just got bigger and bigger prompting the action from the authorities.

 

Pinterest states that these kind of hornets are known as "tiger hornets" in much of Asia.

I got attacked by these buggers once, damn painful but retribution was swift and sure, sprayed them into oblivion.

A Lady that worked for me 10 years in my fields in Vietnam was attacked by hundreds of these, she died on the spot.  the nest was in the only tree in the middle of 2500sq meters of rice fields, she went to the tree for ??.  There were hundreds of these buggers all over her and the ground, they're like Killer Bees in Africa - noise pisses them off, I suspect he Hornet built there nest were attracted to the hum of the electrical  equipment.
