The key remote lock/unlock function for my pick up (which is over 6yrs old) started to malfunction a while ago before completely giving up the ghost. Changed the battery at a watch shop but this has not helped. According to the watch guy the circuit board may be knackered as no light was emitted when he was playing around with it and a circuit tester.

I will be going back to the main dealer but does anyone know is there a way to repair/replace said board?

I am presuming not, as it would need to be linked uniquely to the car, but wanted to check here first.

Otherwise I am guessing the only way to restore the function is to get new keys from the dealer which I understand is prohibitively expensive - I asked a couple of years ago as the plastic end of the key broke where it was on a key ring but cannot remember the actual cost.

I would at least get a price from the dealer and go from there.

If you’re planing on keeping it might not be a bad investment.

If it still starts with the key, getting a fob to open and close the windows cheap enough at one of the tint/stereo shops.

For a Toyota Vigo, Bht 7200, and a week's wait. Unless they decide to change all the lock barrels, then Bht ??????????

Try the key cutter places found in shopping centres. I've had a few new keys made for Fortuners. Around B4,000 each. They need the car nearby.

Key is no issue and still have original spare. It is only remote lock unlock of doors - no such function on windows for this truck.

See comment above.

Our City key packed up same we went to Big 'C' there was a key stall which gives you your alarm buttons in a new key handle which flinks out the key like a flink-knife, people change just for the gimmick.

Have you checked your fuse box..?   ?

There are some systems that use a couple of fuses, your handbook points them out..The door solenoids probably use a lot of juice when they all trip at once, and l reckon a relay will be involved, that maybe in the fuse box too..

Just to clarify what you are after. To me it looks like you are saying the mechanical part of the key works but the electronic side doesn't.

What circuit board do you think isn't working?

If it's the one in the key, a replacement key comes with all the electronic inners. The shopping centre locksmith shops have a copy machine that they place your old key in and it copies the electronic codes/details onto a new chip in the new key.

Sorry if that was not clear - yes the one in the key according to the watch repairer who looked at it and replaced the battery. Thanks for the explanation. That may well be the best option.

No.......

Car is having a service Saturday so will ask then. If the fuse had gone though would it not have gone in one go? The operation became sporadic before cutting out completely.

Dunno....Pull the fuses and relay, clean the contacts..Easy stuff before looking at hardware..

Good to know thanks - I wasn't overly impressed with the guy so will probably try a few other key places - there are a lot in Pattaya!

Well I went to the dealer for oil change yesterday and asked if they could look at the remote. Eventually the service guy  understood nothing to do with battery and said he would get a technician to do so.

When I came back in the afternoon and was paying I asked did the technician check key (service guy not there of course) and went through the whole thing again. Called over another service guy and went out to car and lo and behold it was working.........

Still don't know if they did anything to the key or was another issue as Trans suggested.......

Saved myself 3k plus baht and now have to get used to using the remote again

Not sure what kind of tech is your key using but somes can get de-synchronized if not used for a while, flat battery etc or for god know what reasons.

There's a process to re-sync the key which would be like turning ignition on with the faulty key, and then pressing one of the button during like 5-10 seconds, process can change a bit depending on the car / key model, maybe it was that ? who knows !

Anyway, there's this shop http://www.immobilizerservice.com/

They can copy pretty much any key model / pretty useful if you have an old model or a fancy imported model that no local dealer are gonna want to do anything about it.

Tested and working, they could duplicate my Honda HISS bike key in 10 minutes, can't remember whether i paid 1000 or 2000 baht but there was a 1 year warranty on it,.
