90 Day Non O at Chong Mek

Featured Replies

My wife and I will be in Thailand next month on a 1 year Non O based on marriage. We have always gone every 90 days from Amnat Charoen to Mukdahon and crossed into Laos from there. My wife says she wants to go to Chong Mek the next time instead of Suvannakhet. Previously we went to Suvannakhet and returned immediately. Is that possible at Chong Mek? And is it still possible at Suvannakhet/Chong Mek, or will we have to stay 1 day in Laos?  I realize I should already know these things, but when I submitted our visa requests this time it seems much has changed. We always got our visas from Atlanta before, but his time they said much had changed and I would have to send them to Washington. Then phone calls and we had to start digging out 50 year old paper work to show wife was Thai even though we had 6 previous non o's and had submitted her lifetime Thai ID which is valid. If I had it to do over again I would have submitted for a retirement visa which we both qualify for, but I was trying to be 100% honest in our reason for visiting. And, I could have avoided the border runs.

If you just need to do a visa border run, please read this:

Thank you gzu88bv. I think that link answers my questions. I read, and have read the forum daily for many years. I guess I missed this, but if Ubonjoe said it, it must be true. Thanks again.

As I wrote in the earlier post it will not be a problem at Chong Mek.

An advantage is that you walk across the border. It will probably take you at least half the time to do the crossing compared to Mukdahan to Savannakhet.
