Parmesan Cheese? I don't think so.

Do not worry about.  These people obviously have never set foot in the United States or California in particular.  Producers in the States were making fine cheese, olive oil and bread for a long long time.  It is about choice.  In the states you can buy the real deal imported, very good local, or like some say plastic imitation.  Up to you and your taste and the size of your wallet.  People from postage size countries may not have that choice.

Oh, but I have driving the length and breadth of California. So you should really not start your post by making things up. Lest no one take the rest of what you write seriously.

Now I have read all that you have written, my initial statement is borne out.

We certainly have a wider range of cheeses in our postage stamp sized country than you do in yours.

We just won't have American crap in ours.

When you stop injecting your cows with hormones, we might let it in.

Actually I wouldn't be surprised. There are always going to be people who care about quality.

But to suggest that Wisconsin is in any position to run a World Cheese Championship is patently ridiculous and for someone to use it to prop up their argument even more so.

no.. I think you have misread the label.

It's an American product and by law the largest ingredient is listed first.

Please help me to see where the container indicates its an American product?

I firmly believe in "truth in advertising".

Real Parmesan is pretty old & mature with a strong taste. And it will be >100 Baht per 100 gr, for sure

If only 100 baht, it's possibly Grana Padano or something else.

Eataly on Jomtien 2nd Road and it's sister supplier on Sukhumvit can probably be relied on for authentic produce. Though I haven't been there for a while.

You need to get out a bit more, Mr 'cutandpaste' merchant.

Over 600 varieties, types, and styles of cheeses are created in Wisconsin. 23 percent of the total dairy farms (10,000) in the U.S. are in Wisconsin.  96% are small (145 cows) family owned.

So the postage stamp comment offended you.  My comment was about availability of products and choices. And no, driving through a place does not make you an expert.

Yes we have wider availability than you. We just won't stock American cheese and you sell copies of European cheese or just processed crap. You can keep it.

You suggested that I hadn't been there at all. Now you are stating that even though I have been there I'm not an expert. Still making it up as you go along.

Look...if you are happy with what is produced there, eat it. No skin off my back.

Who makes more cheese the State of Wisconsin or Switzerland?  Wisconsin.  Who makes more cheese the State of Wisconsin or Italy?  Wisconsin.  There are over 1,000,000 cows in Wisconsin.  Broaden your horizons and take a trip to Wisconsin and see the State that makes more cheese than almost any other country in Europe.

You wrote, " To suggest that Wisconsin is in any position to run a World Cheese Championship is patently ridiculous"  Which is a patently ridiculous statement as Wisconsin is the 4th largest producer of Cheese in the world and also produces 600 different varieties and has the largest amount of wins at international cheese competitions.

No, he's simply trying to point out that there are some damn fine cheeses being made in the US.

In a lot of cases smaller is better that's why I mentioned above that 96% of Wisconsin's dairy farms are small and family owned with an average of 123 cows but you don't read my posts before responding.

Yes indeed. For a small European producer without a brand name to make inroads into that mass market, you can guess what they need to do.

Show me a world championship without an American connection and I'll take a look.

Otherwise, it's just a joke to me.

Like the huge craft brewing industry, craft cheesery is a huge thing in both US and Canada.

We make some damn fine cheeses, wines, and beer but Europeans are snobs and won't admit it.

I read it and I've stated that once you show me an independent competition, I'll take you seriously.

I've been to that country many times. A lot of the foodstuffs are simply atrocious.

No one has stated that there are no quality products. So cutting and pasting this or that does not bolster your argument in any way.

But on the whole your food standards are more lax than European standards. So given the choice I would buy European as opposed to American.

So more Wisconsin cheese for you. Don't complain. Enjoy. ?

Why should I as you are the doubting Thomas.  Because of the international nature of the competitors and the fact that most years a European country has won.  You do read?  Feel free to post your examples of an international competition where Americans are represented in equal shares with Europeans and I'll be more than happy to cut and paste it here.

Why would my method of presenting facts have anything to do with your bashing?  You haven't sampled many Wisconsin cheeses ergo you are not qualified to posit and opinion.  You are just blowing wind with no facts or experience.

Try some Reserve Cheese SarVecchio® Parmesan compared to your favorite and I'll take you seriously.

Copies of European cheese ? I do not think so.  The point I was trying to make was that we have choices in the States all according to his or hers means.  I drove from California to Guatemala and back, two months.  It doesn't make me an authority on Mexican food.

Sorry...tired of reading your 'cut & paste' nonsense.

If you present the cheese that you want me to taste, I will gladly do so and will bring some quality cheese in return.

In America they can dress up any old crap with a fancy name.

Reserve cheese indeed..... there's one born every minute.

Tell me something about the provenance of said cheese. It is called Reserve because it is aged for 20 months. ?

The Standard product in one of my local supermarket is 30 months matured. What would that be called? Super Duper Reserve?

As I told you earlier, you are so used to eating crap there, that when they introduce something close to European quality, you get totally over-excited.

Anyway, bring on your Reserve cheese. I'll give it a try.

Or is 'cut & paste' all you have to offer?

One hundred percent the Wisconsin industry was based on European cheese.

Another sad person who thinks that modern US culture was the beginning of all history. Get over yourself.

No not hardly.  I am not trying to bash, if it sounds like it, my mistake.  I was just trying to point out that in the United States you can purchase whatever your wallet can afford, imported, local, or imitation.  That may or not be the case in smaller countries. In fact it is just the reverse, I get offended by all the United States bashing on this forum and this is from a duel citizen.

We can buy everything and more in the UK(apart from American crap that is banned in Europe). Have you ever been to the U.K?

You seem to think that you are an authority on smaller countries. You are just making it up as you go along. A broken watch is right at least twice a day. But you keep moving the goalposts, so you fail even that lowly test.

Sorry tired of reading your prejudiced opinions without experience or factual information, is that all you have to offer? I don't have to cut and paste.  It is simply the current method of presenting factual information and more efficient.  I have presented you with a plethora of facts and awards an American Cheese has won and you have been unable to counter those facts.  I don't know what country you live in or why you post on a Thai forum.

They have magnificent cheese in America that you have not tasted it is not my problem.  I've tasted both American and Italian Parmesan and they are on a par.  You haven't.  Not my fault.

Reserve Cheese SarVecchio® Parmesan has done quite well at international competitions like the Global Cheese Awards from Frome Sumerset (not in America) winning gold, bronze and other medals.

It would be like me saying, " I really don't like European cars if I had never driven one"

It is a commentary on how the person feels about the country rather than the products.

Old Americans are that way about Chinese and Japanese products and remember what they were like in the 1950's.

You are biased against America instead of having tasted any of the products you are commenting on.  You can't make the argument because cheap American cheese is no good that the same applies to expensive American cheese.  Understand? Because I had a bad VW does not mean that Mercedes are lousy cars.

I've also ate American 'Parmesan'. I posted about it earlier in the thread. Perhaps you missed that in your hurry to cut and paste.

It wasn't right at all. It probably wasn't the Reserve cheese you mention. But it was expensive and was not of the standard required.

So if you want to stand by your conviction that the cheeses are the same, bring the cheese with you and I'll bring mine. OK?

We can also check the provenance of the cheeses if you like. If hormones and antibiotics are used etc

So thank you, but no more cut and paste needed.

Bring the cheese if you can get it. If not, enjoy what you enjoy and I'll enjoy what I enjoy.

Good day to you.
