I noticed The Stickman's column is back

Featured Replies

Just wondering if anyone cares or is interested to know that the Stickman's Column is back and has been for a couple of weeks now. Do you think it will ever get back to the popularity it once had, or have times changed and it's lost a lot of its appeal. I wouldn't say I was ever a big fan but I have to admit of at least checking out the morsels of interest pretty much on a weekly basis back when it was going good. When he was trying to do it from abroad, for me personally, it was not as interesting. I am not sure if that is the intent now but It is back on the internet.

the places he covers have lost their appeal, but it is a good read.  I think he even mentioned an anniversary party at Shark Bar at Cowboy, tonight.

The news round up was very good, and the main benefit of the column as I remember. He would circulate the bar areas several nights a week and give a useful update regarding promotions, happy hours and the rest. His opening pieces were usually well chosen and would cover subjects of interest, but they could often be opinionated to the point of being annoying.

Stick deserves a lot of credit. Came over to Thailand as a youngster, learned Thai and started up a site that was a benefit to a lot of folks. When I met him in 2000? he was still relatively a sprat but really knew his way around, not just for mongerers but for everybody.

For those who critisize him, I ask: what have you done that helps a whole bunch of tourists and expats? For free!

I'd give him credit for his bar news roundup sure, and some of his pieces. But he would often have a patronising tone, as if his opinion was the final word on a subject - this is fine as it was his column, but it wasn't necessarily a balanced view, and my own experiences in Thailand have often been different from the picture he paints. Don't get the impression he was doing it for free either, he made a pile of money from his regular sponsors. Towards the end, these and the few bar bosses he was friends with were the only people who ever got mentioned in the news section of the site so it was far from impartial.

He wasn't doing anything for free, he was running a business.

Never as patronizing as that guy who said, "nuff said"  or "next."

Trink was a lot more informative..that is why he was banned.  But a high percentage of Sticks bars stuff is at one of two places, minus the Arab's bars...that's who pays him...so what.  At least there are a few remotely good promos nowadays..so the law os supply and demand eventually rules, even in shootyourselfinthefootandthrowbabyoutwithbathwater Thailand.  Or you could just watch one of the milllion hours of video on youtube of the areas..Apparently the feminazis are taking photos of johns negotiating dates...not too cool.  I think I'll photograph a few of them stepping on the scale at 711.

Free means none of his readers paid for it. Now some of you for sure are far more knowledgeable and experienced, but for those of us who were rookies it years ago, it was a great column. We got our feet wet, it was a way to catch up

and years ago is was a a good place to drink, even if you had no desire to find a date.  200 THB AYCD Chang for 4 hours...Cathouse...there were teacher cliques in their every day after school.  Imagine what that would do to an English teacher's pay these days.

And you could watch me and the cats.

The bar reviews are surely only of interest to visitors. His photography is first class and above all else he is the most decent and helpful person I ever met in Thailand.
