An oyster farm and resort has burned down after staff sprayed the entire property with liquid containing oil and diesel in a bid to keep away mosquitos.

Sinmana Farmstay located in Kanchanadit District is popular with tour groups who stay at the resort and catch oysters.

Ahead of the arrival of a large tour group who were due to stay at the resort this weekend, staff created a concoction containing oil and diesel and sprayed it all over the property believing it would stop mosquitoes from bothering the soon to be arriving guests.

While it is not clear exactly how the blaze started, a spark ignited the property, with the blaze spreading rapidly throughout the resort at around 5pm on Friday evening.

Fire crews battled for three hours to put out the blaze, which is estimated to have caused more than 10 million baht in damage.

No one was injured in the fire.

Meanwhile, Daily News reported that officials are now investigating claims of encroachment and that the resort may have been illegally built.

The claims were made by local fisherman who said they had been unable to make a living because of the location of the resort in the water.

These neandarthals sure are good for a laugh, and at least nobody got hurt, although the loss of face is much worse than that anyways ?

By no means am I an expert on mosquito control although I would have approached the problem from a different angle.

I can just imagine what other mixtures they might use, maybe something to keep the oysters looking fresher!

Just seen the video on liveleaks.they were using diesel and gas as a mosquito repellant before a new boatload of guests arrived.somehow it ignited and probably not one fire extinguisher on site or hose and pump.obviously illegally built and a fire trap.

Gues they didn't think that the smelling diesel would bother the guests.

Are the oysters all safe?  Poor things.

Funny how it says the customers 'catch' the oysters.  I bet they move fast!

Given that the guests catch the oysters, maybe the all escaped. An oyster stampede would be something to witness.

This has to be a big challenger for the next Darwin awards

Well, for all the Thai bashers; it obviously worked against the mosquitos.

"I love the smell of diesel fuel in the morning. It smells like victory... over mossies"

I know we all want to give stupid award to these geniuses, but did they get result? Are the mosquitoes gone?

the mindset:

spray a liquid intended as mosquito repellent, it's composed of flammable ingredients but because of it's intended use that attribute is negligible. Job done, light up a cigarette. Ooops.

Apparently not all gone but they are considering  C4 as a final solution.

Duh!

Diesel doesn't burn very easily at all, I wondered what was added, and how much.

Maybe the property's MGMC (Major General of Mosquito Control) mistakenly distributed Jerry cans of petrol, instead of diesel.

Cretins....They should have just asked Prayut to use Article 44 and his 'Supreme Power' to ban the Mosquito's from going in there !

Which is what I thought.

According to "Liveleak" :

"reportedly a mixture of oil, diesel and gas"

"gas" = Petrol?

Petrol used to thin the mixture and make it more easily spra...oh....oops.

It was always oil and petrol in my Molotov days.

So? That is the result you get when you burn diesel and oil like they did.

Except the minnor additional fire of cours  :w00t:

Local version of Shelltox perhaps?

Perhaps the even bigger stupidity was imaging that a place of aquaculture would make a wonderful mozzie- free resort. Run before you can walk syndrome.
