How to pick a trustworthy Thai language school for ED Visa? (Chiang Mai)

I took a 30 hour course in the evenings, and the most obnoxious drama queens were teaching on Ed visas and would show up thirty minutes late, or not at all.  Heard negatives on every school.  CMULI is not really CMU, even though it is on their campus...and yes, hard to forgive them and "Dr. Kay," for the 2010 scandal that almost took as many as the Expat Club scammer(s)...but those who paid with CC got partial refunds.  It's a great place to get certified translations.  Any place doing visas is going to be focussed on that.

I wonder where did Yogaveg disappear to?

Surely you should be able to tell us which school you picked and your experience there.

Hi! I took a break from the hunt and did a visa run. Honestly, I am still deciding where I want to be grounded to long-term. Couldn't find a weekend-only class schedule and am now leaning towards the self-defense visa IF I continue to choose Chiang Mai, BUT I also don't suspect the burning season is going to work out for me... already I'm weary of the air quality.

I've frankly become a bit disheartened by the whole Thai immigration/visa attitude and cost. I still love the place and intend on more exploring but for the long haul it isn't as favorable for falang as I initially wished for.

Visa runs suit me fine at present, tho I can see how this lifestyle gets old fast, and they are in fact cheaper than a good school anyway.

I'm also giving serious consideration to the TEFL work possibility as perhaps a better fit.

So ya, the visa hassles of Thailand could easily push me to Malaysia or Vietnam sooner than I had originally hoped.

But that's ok.

It's all an adventure.

Visa run for several months?

Don't go the TEFL work route, there are tons of TEFL teachers looking for work in Thailand and can't find any.

The schools need English teachers with many years of actual teaching experience and not just a cert from the cert-producing schools which don't really teach.
