Hi all,

What are the current requirements to renew the 5 year Thai driver license.

Also, I was out of country and came back. It expired mid June this year. So I'm about 3.5 months passed due.

Would I have to redo the whole thing all over again?

I do have work permit (current) so I don't need to get proof of residency.. Hopefully its just passport copy, WP copy and health check from hospital?

Thanks as always

3.5 months overdue is no problem.

Up to one year without extra effort, only the mandatory reaction/eye tests, maybe video watching.

You don't need a medical certificate for 5yr to 5yr extension.

Passport, WP, old DL, copies.

That's it.

I'm here on a "retirement visa" so I guess copy of that and my yellow house book (in lieu of the statement from Immigration)?

I'm renewing my 5 year DL for the 3rd time. Are you sure about the medical not being needed?

this varies from DLT to DLT,

Nonthaburi:

copy passport (photo-arrival-visa)

copy DL

medical certificate

Certificate of residence

Quite sure.

Not only to the rules but from own experience this year.

Medical is needed for initial temporary (2 year) and for first 5yr after temporary.

Not needed for 5yr to 5yr.

Indeed inconsistent.

YB was accepted at my office twice, no questions.

From reports here it seems that Pattaya won't accept (as an example).

No medical:

This year I extended existing 5yr car license, no medical required.

In contrast, last year I extended my temporary motorcycle license to a standard (5yr) license. I had forgotten about the medical and was sent away to get one.

Thanks. I will be renewing both the car and MC 5 year licenses at the same time. Do you know if I need one certificate of residence for each one?

In Pattaya I recently use 1 original certificate of residence and 1 copy   to renew my car and bike licence..other provinces may have other rules.

I'm in Pattaya but think I will go with two originals as TIT. It's a shame I can't use my yellow house book. It was not worth the considerable effort getting it.

Totally "up to you" but I'd rather use the 300 baht for some more beer or waste it on something else.

My car and motorbike licences run out when I’m traveling in Thailand.

Can I renew them at any DLT province office ?

or is it best to do them before I leave a month early?

thank you for any advice

Just an update on this from Pattaya. Went there today with all the required paperwork. Arrived at around 1230. New from 1st of October is that the 5-5 year renewal training only takes place between 1000-1100 and 1330-1430. Prior to that your paperwork has to be checked and the queue is loooong so I have to come back tomorrow for another round of queuing.

She said "come back at 0800" but I'll go there around 1000 and get my number thingy and do the training in the afternoon although that requires two trips.

Which is the reason why what ever we do or wherever we go there is are a zillion important looking staff, and even more folk sitting waiting for something to happen...????
