Im just not "happy" about paying a 200 % mark-up on beer prices .

When , a few years ago , they were charging 80-90 Bart for a large Chang

I would quite happily spend a 1000 Baht for a night out

These days , two beers and thats it

U-beer, 50bht for a big bottle at my local mom & pop store, and they'll give me a glass to sit and drink it at a table outside.

It's getting out of hand in certain bars around there for sure, I guess the typical Thai response to having less customers, push prices up and die entirely. The girls are horrible too (both looks and prices).

I stopped going myself except for seldom visits playing pool, it is a better deal to fly down to PTY and have some actual entertainment + value for money instead.

For normal bars and restaurants CM still offers plenty though (in my opinion).

You do of course considered that bars have overheads to pay such as huge rents, electric, wages, tv channel subscriptions , internet, police donations and are there to make a profit.

In most major cities you pay 150 for a small bottle and in the clubs 220-240 for a small bottle.

Complete nonsense argument, no police payments in that area as well. No huge rents, minimal electric as of no AC, most no tv + no salary for staff in most places.

In major cities you are not paying 150 for a small bottle either. That is what I pay for a whisky or wodka + mixer and often even less. Clubs are expensive anywhere, can't compare that with bars nor with CM.

It is simply greed and trying to make up revenue after having fck** up themselves, I also see this pricing behaviour at certain bars in ''drink plaza's'' around BKK (soi 22) and Pattaya (anywhere).

The ones that know to manage cashflow and run a bar,
are only growing & without prices having been increased (much).

Yes but they have good tables, good building, real clean glasses, real police, real ambulances, heating/aircon, decorations, good staff......and real draft beer with foam.

Rents and utilities havnt increased in years, salaries are minimal if anything in the bars, tax and prices have increased slightly yet bars now  do 200 or 300% mark up. They just dont get it...befor beer was cheap, staff friendly and it was fun. Now its almost more expensive than drinking in London, staff are rude or busy playing on their phones and the whole experience is worse than having a root canal at the dentists. On top of that you have to contend with bill padding, wrong check bins and wrong change. Thailands bar scene is dead, gone and buried. Phillippines you can sit in a bar with 30 half naked women that will speak to you in fluent English while drinking a beer that costs 30 Baht....far better.

All operating costs on bars & restaurants have increased over the past 3 years (including being hit with vat more and more).   Alcohol, food, license, salaries and tax have gone up.   When a lease is renewed the rent is going up, significantly for some places, not so much for others.   There are some places that decided when the last alcohol tax went up in September, they would move all the prices way up.   I waited until the dust settled and then adjusted accordingly (around March).   I went from 100 on Lg Chang & Leo to 110.   I am on Loi Kroh, but still try to keep the prices reasonable, of course I am not a lady bar either and my staff are not on their phones unless I have tasked them with something to do (if they are message me and it will be taken care of).

Who is they?

The bars on Loy Kroh are slowly dying, they cannot be replaced by another if sold. This is perhaps one of the slowest Low Seasons in many a year and that's according to a guy who has had Pub and Restaurant here for 14 years. What do expect when there are no customers? Raising prices is their only alternative even with a good staff you are hanging on by a thread. I go down Loy Kroh road three times a week at night and make it a point to slow down and look inside the bars and believe me it it's an ugly sight. No customers, girls sitting on their <deleted> playing on their mobile phones. I gave up a long time ago visiting the bars along this street, prices went up the quality of the girls went down and the fun vibe was gone.

Putting aside OP clearly wrote he just wanted to watch TV, every bar pays police

but do not let facts get in a way of a cheap Charlie clueless rant

Wow, they'll give you a glass and they'll let you sit at a table, the life we're living, they'd never believe us back home!

Back home it's too cold and wet to sit outside for 360 days of the year.

So could he probably but he chose to go to a bar and use it's facilities and then complain about his own choice!

If the exchange rate was 80 to one we wouldn't have heard anything from the OP so why blame the bar!
