A Facebook poster has appealed to the public after a young German man was assaulted in Phuket.

Jira Malee said that the German tourist was attacked last week by three young Thai men and an older man with a sword and knife.

Jira did not know why it happened.

It happened outside 7/11 in the Rawai area near Soi 11 Sai Yuan Road on the night of 27th September between 10.40 pm and midnight.

Police have CCTV but did not want to share it. Jira appealed for people to go to the Chalong police if they have information.

Medical reports showed the name of the tourist was Patrick Starke and that he had a head wound and a wound to his left arm.

Jira said he needed seven stitches in his head and 20 in his arm.

His family said he is afraid to go out amid fears he will be attacked again.

Chalong police are investigating.

Well, despite your protestation, you did make light of a serious situation.  Just imagine being attacked by four Thai men with a sword and a knife, whatever the background to this story happens to be.

Is it not unusual for the Police not to share the CCTV. Sounds a bit odd.

not to make light of a serious situation but, that will be a bad ass scar, better than a tattoo. just shave your head in a 1980s road warrior kind of way.

Germany and Korea.the next countries to get apologies,?

for this attack, and the Korean who got ripped off in Chiang Mai,

maybe the Government needs to open up a new ministry,

The Ministry of Apologies ,should be quite busy.but maybe only Chinese get one.

Random attacks can happen, but generally are perpetrated by mentally unbalanced individuals...there could be more to this story.

Looks like a revenge to me.

Wish a quick recovery to the young guy.

It would be a hit on TV if they replace the uncle's friday sermons with a weekly showdown between the Ministry of Apologies and the Ministry of Keeping Face.

Still, I think this would be the most popular ministry of all, and I think is long overdue here:

My gut feeling is the young German said or did something to piss off some Thai louts, but if he didn't and this was just a random attack for the fun of it then it's a frightening prospect that you can pop down to the 7 for a couple of cans and some <deleted> smash you in the head with a sword.

"Patrick Starke" does not sound German to me.

I agree, with a cool story to boot ,''I was attacked by a sword wielding Thai''...beats '' I was drunk and fell in a hole ''.......go forth and share it with the world...( but you may have a bald spot their dude..)

It's definitely a common German name.

What does between 10:40 and midnight mean ?

I'd guess the CCTV footage would actually identify some important suspects that wield more than a sword.

Was this a warning or a mistaken identity ?

Eh?????

I know that Bob Smith is common down down in Swabia..and Bill Longbottom is a definite in Prussia..but Pat Stark?

Where did he come from...the Scot's regiments of Gustavus Adolphus?

My gut feeling is this is a one sad, desperate, attempt to pull a 180 and blame the victim. But I reckoned someone was going to try it anyway.

They don't share it if they are on it...

The true image of Pattaya just grows every day.. all shared worldwide by social media!!

I'm just waiting for them to fully develop the "resort of the west" in Hua Hin..

Then we will see this on both sides of the Andaman sea !!!

Maybe misspelling.. Starke instead Starck .. like Phillipe Starck. But he’s French. Maybe area between France and Germany.

I think the German guy knows exactly why this happened.

On almost every thread on which an attack or trouble has been reported naming either the perpetrator or victim there is always some tool who'll question the validity of the nationality of the name...

I can understand it in some cases where there may be some relevance and underlying cultural explanation and reference to causation... but in this case and many others the relevance is completely beyond me... Who cares what his name was? he was attacked.. I care more about why and hope its not random for that places many of us at risk.

Hes been living here a few years so hardly a tourist

So they have potentially conclusive evidence but do not want to share/use it. Doesn't anyone else find this a bit disturbing?

He was lucky it was only 3 on one. I hope he finds justice. The police can be very effective when they want to be. We shall see what comes to pass.
