A female European tourist was found crying and distressed as she was running out from a Soi near Naiharn Beach early this morning.

The woman was asking for help from shop owners and passers-by. She claimed that a Thai man had tried to have sex with her. Police are now awaiting the results of a medical examination as they continue their investigation.

Chalong Police, Phuket Tourist Police and Phuket Immigration officers have been investigating the scene and assisting the woman. They were notified by a coffee shop owner, 27 year old Wassana Sukkaew, near Nai Harn Beach.

Good these 2 ladies are on the ball and have come forward.

Sounds like a very genuine and valuable account from them. I hope this case doesn't get the cover up treatment. I hope for once justice can be served and my thoughts are with the young British woman.

Not much for her to lie about as she doesn't remember anything except . . .

She was drunk whilst in a bar with a thai man who she asked to take her back to her hotel as she was too drunk to go herself.

Wakes up and knows she's had sex the night before and nothing else. Claims she was raped.

Sure she may have been drugged or just drunk and raped but these girls aren't really giving the police much hope of prosecution, would she have done that back home?

If she did, she may well find something similar or worse would happen.

No, I am not victim blaming, just saying, it's not like there haven't been enough warnings signs for young female tourists recently, that getting so drunk you cannot control yourself may well lead to trouble especially if drinking with a stranger in a foreign country

If there’s physical evidence then proceed ! If there isn’t then, go back to bed and dream

Didn't know bars stayed open until 7 am in Kata.

yes, because no rape in Thailand by Thais.

Doesn't just happen here in Thailand, any single girl who goes out drinking alone to the point she's completely pissed with a stranger is asking for trouble..

Not saying she deserves to be raped but.. personal behaviour is a factor...

You don't cross the road without looking .... if you get my drift !

No surprises that the other media outlet has a different version:

"According to the initial report by Chalong Police, the woman, 24 years old, was staying at hotel in Karon. She told police that she went to a bar in Karon last night and was drinking with a Thai man, who she later asked to take her back to her hotel because she was drunk."

First rule, do not accept drinks in a bar from people you do not know, Second rule, do not get drunk with people also you do not know, third rule, never let someone take you home that has offered to, when you not know them, this country is getting worse for this sort of crime.

Just because you state "I am not blaming the victim" doesn't cancel out your previous obvious blame of the victim.

This is a simple for ALL men to understand. Women have the right to get drunk if they want to, exactly the same as men. They have the right to let their hair down and socialise and talk to new people (strangers) in a bar. They also have the right to accept someone offering to walk them home. Lastly, they also have the right to get home safely and not be raped and taken advantage of by a scumbag man.

The man has NO RIGHT to take advantage and rape the women. If he offers to walk her home because she is drunk then he should do exactly that, walk her home and make sure she gets home safely, thats it.

You can talk to the woman later about using more wisdom in her activities and not leaving herself open for these scumbag rapists. BUT THE MAN IS AT FAULT,,, 100% not the woman.

Wake up fella! Have you ever walked a lady home? I have and it never , ever occurred to me to get her alone and rape her because she was drunk and it would be easy,, not ever. The guy is a rapist, focus on that first, you can talk about the wisdom of her actions later, AFTER the rapist is caught.

Sorry, but this is such Dinosaur thinking. Rape it rape fella, thats it.

Taking into account that some Western women already yell  "rape" when a man only looks or smiles at them, I'm sure this "case" will be open to any kind of surprise.

Nothing is black and white like you make out in life.

Yes, no man should rape a drunk woman.... no one is saying that is OK.

But we each have to take responsibility for our own actions.  Getting so drunk (man or woman) alone, talking to strangers and accepting a ride with them is very stupid and dangerous.

What if one of those times you walked a women home, she was drunk and so were you.  She might come on to you and invite you to have sex with her willingly.  Then in the morning she forgets everything, freaks out and says you raped her.  Then people like you would be saying the man must be a rapist.

Yes I agree with you 100 percent but she also has the resposibility to take care of her self before she gets blind drunk.

Terrible, is that the best you could do. It is black and white fella, I suggest you understand that very quickly. If a woman says "no" its rape, if a woman is unconscious and not able to make that decision its rape.

Only if she consents to sex is it not rape. Its not difficult to understand. If you are the kind of scumbag man who has sex with an incoherent woman who has no idea what is happening, well in my book you are a rapist.

What we are talking about here is not the possibility of a man being falsely accused, we are talking about very clearly defining rape and staying focused on catching the rapist and NOT immediately questioning the womans conduct as if to say "ah well you got drunk and accepted a walk home so you pretty much asked for it"

Please WAKE UP!

I agree whole heatedly ... being a gentleman that HAS also escorted ladies home when they have too much ... they have even asked me to stay, but knowing how drunk they were, I left it at that hoping that we may get together under more sober conditions ...

I don't see anyone disagreeing with you here, though you seem to be sufficiently agitated to keep repeating the fact that sex without consent, by either party, constitutes rape; nobody says otherwise.

However, despite your strident tone, it is perfectly legitimate to wonder at the wisdom, in certain places, at certain times and under certain circumstances, of lone females behaving as this one seems to have done. Of course, in an ideal world such consequences as appear to have happened to this woman would not occur, but all of us, male and female, must be pragmatists in an imperfect world.

The woman did not break any law, she got drunk like men do. She has the right not to be violated drunk or not drunk. My point is people need to wake up and stop focusing on the womans conduct first and focus on catching the scumbag.

Education on behaviour and keeping yourself safe is something to discuss separately and afterwards.

Now then, a new sex pest, or the prolific one who may of moved here from you know where.

Quite right too fella. You are obviously a normal guy who behaves appropriately. ☺️

she is not the first or will be the last we will be reading about in the future happens in  places where drink involved bars night clubs  ect

when  one cannot control their drinking  habits it could leave them open to abuse

It seems he just tried hard, but he was finished already.

The owner will have a new story as soon as Joke arrives on the scene. There was no rape or assault lol.

After the last episode it will take some convincing with big joke on the case.

Goodness, you have completely missed the point my friend, the legitimacy of the woman's behaviour being the initial port of call is my point and I am not trying to educate people on the definition of rape.

My strident tone is born out the fact that people still, today focus on the conduct of the woman prior to the rape rather then catching the rapist, it is not the 1970's.

You can be a pragmatist, you can talk about how women can help themselves by taking precautions by all means. However do not be insensitive to this woman's terrible plight by focusing "initially" on her conduct prior to the rape and posting it on a public forum.

I hope they stride forward and endeavour to catch this scumbag.
