Car import to Bangkok

Featured Replies

I have the idea of exporting my rather valueless, (but still good) BMW 530 Diesel from Netherlands to Thailand, Bangkok. Is this private exporting of a car allowed and possible at all?

The paperwork and shipping here in NL i can arrange, but how does the registration process in Thailand work? What to do in steps?

I have a Thai woman to help registering on her name if needed. For now i'm looking for information ... thanks !

Hi,

Look at the motor part of this forum. Everyone will tell you not to do it as it is too expensive tax wise. There are few who succeed, your not the first plus your car will have its steering wheel at the wrong side.

is it that time again, another thread on bring a car to Thailand

short and shape truth is '' it can not be done''

Not worth it, sell it there and buy another one here

Don't wake up sleeping dogs

In the x other threads about the topic I remember one or was it two (?) people who claimed that they have managed to do it.

There is a description/rule set.

BUT: no one will claim that it makes any sense in terms of value/saving money.

No one will claim that it easy. The bureaucracy is tremendous.

It will take months, endless papers to move around to get permissions from three(?) upper authorities.

Even standard shipping companies advice against trying it (I saw that in documents for my move in 2011).

Using a Thai person's name won't help if the car had not been registered for this name during the last ? years and the person moving back permanently to Thailand.

Don't try it.

Give the baby a goodbye kiss and sell it.

'Hell ..how many more times ... after it leaves your shores the next time you see your car is when you are standing at a bus stop and some customs somchai drives by ....
