Crime Police Raid Secret Karaoke Party, 41 Myanmar Nationals Arrested
Picture courtesy of Matichon. Bangkok Metropolitan Police (BMP) conducted a raid on a secret karaoke party in Wang Thonglang district in the early hours of 16 August, arresting 41 Myanmar nationals for drug use. At 04:00, Police Lieutenant General Siam Boonsom, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, together with senior officers including Pol Maj-Gen Noppasil Poolsawas, Pol Maj-Gen Charin Kopattan, and Pol Maj-Gen Pallop Aermla, ordered officers from Wang Thonglang Police Station to investigate a single-storey building next to a hotel in Plubplaa subdistrict. The operation was part of the government’s “NO Drugs, NO Dealers” campaign, targeting drug users and dealers. Following intelligence reports of a private party being held at the unnamed venue, officers found approximately 60 attendees across three karaoke rooms. Random drug tests conducted on all attendees revealed 41 positive results, 26 men and 15 women, all Myanmar nationals. Initial questioning indicated that the gathering was a private birthday party among friends. A search of the premises uncovered four e-cigarette cartridges, suspected to contain Class 2 controlled substances and evidence of alcohol sales. The venue had no licence to operate as a public entertainment establishment. The authorities arrested the following: 1. Paphakorn (or Phong) 48, Thai national – charged with operating a business without a licence and selling alcohol illegally. 2. 41 Myanmar nationals – charged with illegal consumption of Class 1 drugs. Urine samples were sent to Nopparat Rajathanee Hospital for detailed testing to be used as evidence in ongoing legal proceedings. All suspects were subsequently taken to Wang Thonglang Police Station for prosecution. The station chief emphasised that the raid aligns with the Metropolitan Police Bureau and government policies to tackle drug-related offences comprehensively. The public is encouraged to report any drug activity, gatherings involving substance abuse, or illegal operations to police via the 24-hour hotline at 191.
