A 70 year old Australian pensioner fell on South Sathorn road after stumbling over an exposed bit of pipe.

The accident left "Robert" needing hospital treatment - and a few bloodstains on the sidewalk. He hurt his shin and suffered an injury to his knee.

Mekha Rescue attended the scene after being alerted via JS 100 radio station on Twitter.

The accident occurred between the area of Soi Suanphlu and Soi Convent by a pedestrian footbridge.

Local district chief Chuleeporn Wongphak went to the scene and there was some confusion as to the provenance of the sharp pipe.

After checking the electrics to a phone box and digital sign it was decided to cut the PVC pipe to make it flush with the sidewalk.

Robert said it was all his own fault. He was being a bit too hasty and careless as he rushed to get a motorcycle taxi.

He did not intend to sue, reported Sanook.

whomever is confused about this, given the photo, likely thinks those painted lines on streets are for decoration

As a design concept the black and white stripes they paint on the road in some places works for me.

He should have sued !, without it costing somebody, nothing

is going to change, its a wonder a lot more people are not injured

or killed, with low hanging electric wires,or the ones insulted with

a plastic bag,on the floor during the rainy season, paths with uneven

surfaces, holes ,you walk not knowing which is best to look up or down.

Old fella trips on pavement. Story goes viral.

Normally I would agree with you,, but I think that a picture like this is worth a thousand words. If no one ever publicizes this then chances are nothing will ever change.

Too bad it wasn't Bill Gates who tripped over the pipe... lol

There was a story the other day about a girl getting hit by a motorbike on the pavement.

The moto taxis near me were pushing their bikes yesterday along the pavement.

I was impressed until today when they were back to riding them down the pavements again.

Nothing will change, as nothing much has done since bill gates had a moan about the wires.

It is what it is ????

Clearly they forgot the internationally recognised "twig barrier"  to prevent such mishaps

Yes however your Lawyer will need that big deposit into their account so they can start work on your case, years & dollars later your payout can only be for damages suffered. So as a 70 yr old is that how you want to spend your final years???

Jesus, that last pic is the worst I have seen and it has obviously been that way for some time, I suppose they are waiting for a major accident to happen first before it's repaired.
