Golf clubs

Featured Replies

Hello all, can anyone advise me on whether to buy golf clubs in Thailand or bring them from the UK and if I do bring them over, am I likely to encounter any problems with customs?  Thanks advance

Golf clubs will cost you probably at least 50% more in Thailand and more like double then if you purchased in the UK.

No issues from customs unless you had multiple sets and they thought you were selling them.........

Your only issue will be weight and/or your chosen airline policy and potential cost.

Many thanks for the information, I will look at buying them here, if they are that expensive in Thailand.

Yes I brought my clubs from the UK, you can buy anything here, but there is a good chance it will be a Chinese copy.

I bought some clubs from a company in the  US even with delivery charges and customs duty they were still half the price of what I would have paid here.

Just like everything else as I thought you can buy last years model golf club set in Thailand for 30 percent more than they ever sold in the US/UK. Plus it may be fake from China. I have heard from enthusiasts the “Beijing Calloways”are pretty good.

You also must check with your airline unless you are smart and fly business class you may be charged a hefty fee (around $200 USD one way) for loading “sports equipment “ in hold luggage.

I’d reckon the best thing to do is try and find a good set on Thailand, used. There are always Farangs quitting golf due to mandatory caddie policies and golf club greed, and also just dying.

I bought a secondhand set of clubs on eBay in UK they were unused and still had their wrappers on + accompanying golf bag for less than £50.  Brought them with me last trip as most airlines will allow you to bring them with no extra charge as long as you don't exceed your baggage allowance. Walked straight through customs here with no issue.

i brought mine in in a wheelie golf holdall with my golfbag/clubs inside and all my luggage stuffed around them, so it was free as it was my only item of hold luggage. cheap to buy shorts/tshirt/polo shirts etc here so no problem

I too use a large long and strong cloth bag open at one end to stuff my golf clubs and loads of clothes, books, golf balls, shoes etc into and seal up with a cable tie.

Have been questioned only once; 'what's in the bag'? Golf, OK pass thru.

Do not say " AK-47'!

New golf clubs in Thailand have ridiculous prices. Best option is to bring in a good set of second-hand clubs. Do not buy on eBay or Gumtree, there is frequent misrepresentation of brand and condition.

I've brought in 2 secondhand sets, plus secondhand drivers and hybrids. Never a problem going through customs.

Premium brands are Ping, Callaway, Taylormade, Titleist and Mizuno. Callaway is the most frequently counterfeited brand. Ping and Callaway are the more user-friendly brands for older golfers.
