Sunday's CB pairing of Gomez and Matip was the first time they had ever been selected as a partnership. They did well considering their total cost was just 3.5m!

Think that last sentence doesn't read right - it's the use of "considering".

Think it should state

"They did well. Their total cost was just 3.5m!"

And yes they did play well.

Why smaller clubs will not play ball on substitutions

Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola wanted the freedom to make 10 substitutions when their teams played on Sunday. They could have made six. They actually made three, Klopp two, Guardiola one. So that’s not the fault of Richard Masters or the Premier League.

Both managers were scathing about the strain this truncated season is placing on their players and they undoubtedly have a point. Equally, Klopp gave the game away when he came up with his compromise.

'If the 14 teams say they don’t want it, at least let us sub five times when the top six play each other,’ he said.

And there it is: them and us, six versus 14. That’s why they can’t get anything through. An elite cabal of Premier League clubs began having their own meetings, to advance their own agendas, and alienated the rest. Now even reasonable requests are met with suspicion and resistance.

Klopp talking arrogant privileged nonsense. Big 6 should play by the rules of the PL or move on.

No excuses for Pep only using one,  but it is sensible to hold one sub back in case of an injury or even a GK sending off late in the game.

Yep there was no excuse for Pep not bringing on a 2nd sub. It was crying out for Foden to come on, he got ready but then was told to sit down - chance wasted there.

Joe Gomez has suffered a 'significant' injury in England training. No specifics as yet.....bloody international weeks!????

Apparently he went down when making a pass unchallenged.. Southgate said it looked bad.. not often a manager comes out and says it's bad straight away, norm it's 'lets wait for it to settle down  and wait for the scans'

Sounds like an op and a 6 monther..

According to Matt Law it's the patellar tendon, which if it is, his season is over.

14 players in 13 games.

This "new era" is about to go pop. FSG better get that wallet out in Jan, we need 2 proper CBs.

Matches before the window opens.

Leicester (H)

Brighton (A)

Wolves (H)

Fulham (A)

Tottenham (H)

Palace (A)

West Brom (H)

Newcastle (A)

That would explain his level of pain. Patella tendon tears are supposed to be more painful than ACL tears, which is saying something.

Had an op on his tendon today. No additional ligament damage. Could be back before the end of the season. Good company for VVD in the new treatment room!

Yeah I agree, it could be a worse run of games. Ones we need to win though.

Ray Clemence has passed away aged 72. Only Alisson has come close to him for LFC. One of the greatest! RIP Ray.

Not sure how you come to that owl.

The tests of C-19 that are being used have a 97% false result.

He may have tested positive, but the chances are he has not got it.

???? You joke, but at this rate, they all could break next.

Nevermind, we won't use it as an excuse. Not like City fans, blaming everything on Laporte being out last season.
