Just wondering if it can be used like an android box for streaming

I am sure I read somewhere that AIS have fixed it so that only their software can be used

I thought that might be the case. Don't know why as I think still get locked into a year subscription when start. I believe android box can stream from apps without the need for kodi

Yes it can. Although somethings still need work arounds ie no google play store but everything can be sideloaded. The boxes are linked to your internet so can only be hacked when connected so have to do yourself. Instructions are given in this thread. Page 18
