Chiang Mai pushed to get a bigger piece of the tourist revenue pie. So they weren't smart enough to plan on increased tourism placing increased drivers unfamiliar with Thailand's driving laws? I understand watching the weather reports are difficult but weather happens every year....planning sucks. 

Chiang Mai government seems to be utterly incompetent.. just look at the whole smog fiasco... Moderate levels of pm2.5 and it's 2 months before "burning season" starts..

"Why people keep dying on Thailand's roads, the most lethal in Southeast Asia"

 

Great, well done Thailand! Scare those tourists off with your headline making carnage.

Whilst this fell is busy blaming everyone else, including the rain god, for the carnage here is a snippet from a more respected news source. 

 

WHO has blamed Thai authorities for not implementing road safety rules effectively, leading to many drivers taking to the roads when drunk or without holding driving licences.

But Thailand has bigger fish to fry when it comes to harming Thailand's reputation and scaring off tourists. Like the girl on YouTube who said she didn't like a dress as worn by a miss universe contestant. Now that girl needs locking up.
