NLA approves new Land Traffic Act

BANGKOK – Thailand’s National Legislative Assembly (NLA) has passed a draft Land Traffic Act that would revamp ticket issuing, fine payment and license confiscation.

 

The latest NLA meeting reviewed a Land Traffic Act submitted by the Cabinet with Minister of Transport Arkom Termpittayapaisit stating that, due to an increasing number of road accidents mostly linked to poor driving discipline, the Land Traffic Act of 1979 should be considered obsolete. Areas of improvement outlined by the minister included the issuing of tickets to driving violators.  

 

On fine payments, the new act would allow for cashier’s checks and electronic transfers to be used alongside physical appearance by the violator at a police station. Police are to be empowered to confiscate a driver’s license if they appear unable to operate their vehicle or if they pose a danger to others or themselves as well as the authority to return licenses when it is deemed the driver is fit.

 

The act was approved with a vote of 157 in favor and two abstentions.

They can tinker with the laws all they want but until someone is out on the road catching wrongdoers it all stays the same.

 

So now instead of having to visit BiB, Somchai the Brainless will be able to continue his joyride on the clapped out Vigo with no brakes after paying 200baht using a mobile app.

which usually means that they will then drive around without the licence.

 

Enforcement is the problem, coupled with miserly fines.

Better start collecting all the licenses then, because the above statement relates to about 90 per cent of the idiots on these roads.

and  in now  way is  that result "normal"

Can’t fix stupid. Nonsensical driving is a hand me down here that cannot be rectified short term. Just like saying they are fixing the educational system, but never works. Now this could cause a true revolt if they start taking licenses and fining too much. Now it is really taking about messing with lively hoods

The lack of a well trained, well paid, supervised, honest, transparent and accountable-to-the-public police force; makes all the laws, edicts, proclamations and photo ops worthless.

Just to make more money. Road safety is not an issue.
