Tourists high season this month

Featured Replies

Yesterday, I tried to take  a minivan to Sankampaeng, the operator said that it is full for the whole day. He said I need to book a seat a day or so earlier.

I've sat this minivan many times before and didn't have to book at all.

Then I realise it's the Chinese New Year holidays.

Yes.

Their New Year is Feb. 5.

But, it goes way beyond that for Chinese taking holiday probably until March 1.  Airlines are also very busy and prices higher so just beware.

I was surprised yesterday spent most of the day in town.  Seems like many Falang also walking around, eating, getting massages, etc.  Good to see some places getting business/customers.

The Chinese school holidays are from January 26-February 18.

By the way, does anybody know whether there are any Chinese New Year public performances in Chiang Mai during Chinese New Year.

I've never seen them in CM before.

Phooey on the lunar new year, that's for the chinese and vietnamese.

But for the folks in CM, the big event is the annual FLOWER FESTIVAL, from Friday to Sunday.

At the city part, SW corner of the moat.

And big parade Saturday morning starting near Tha Pae Gate and winding along the (closed) moat road to the park.

Very colorful and packed with luscious females and marching bands.

And what few know, the schools finish 3 weeks before the full week of the new year holiday.......well, that's in Taiwan for sure as I can attest as I teach there and why I am here now and for my Chinese New Year 30 days as usual!!!
