Chonburi moves to quell dust after air pollution spikes

CHONBURI:--Chonburi Gov. Pakarathorn Thienchai ordered urgent measures be taken to combat dust and smoke after air pollution spiked above healthful levels in three sub-districts.

The amount of particulate matter measuring under 2.5 micrograms was found to be unhealthy in Tun Sukala and Bowin in Sriracha and Ban Suan in Muang District last week.

The governor’s office ordered local officials to take steps to reduce sources of dust and smoke, control outdoor burning and smoke from engines and vehicles.

Law enforcement was urged to strictly enforce burning laws, get smoke-belching vehicles off the road and encourage local drivers to refrain from vehicle use.

Local government crews also were instructed to hose down streets to keep the dust down.

''Urged to strickly  enforce''....or else what...an old fashioned spanking !!!

About time they got more serious about the environment. This is doing major damage in every possible aspect. MS>

Well, that's 9 out of 10 coaches off the road for a start - or not.

It's never gonna work because he didn't say pretty please with sugar on top

unfortunately "smoke belching" vehicles are only the tip of the iceberg. Of course they are easily identifiable so the authorities can look like they are doing their job.

The real issue lies in particulates - mostly invisible and not only from traffic but also from the huge industrial and metro-chemical complexes around Chonburi and Rayong changwats. .....but they have more money and influence the the owners of beat-up motor vehicles.
