There was no let up in the Thai immigration drive to rid the country of people on overstay and those who have entered the kingdom illegally.

Daily News reported that there was a Valentine's Day roundup at 220 places resulting in the arrest of 522 foreigners.

These were mostly migrant workers on overstay or who had entered illegally.

Various work places, hotels and flats were raided in the sweep.

Immigration chief Lt-Gen Surachate "Big Joke" Hakparn was notable by his absence on this occasion with deputy Maj-Gen Itthiphon presiding over affairs at the Chana Songkhram police station near Khao San road last night.

More than 500 foreigners have been rounded up in simultaneous raids around the country, most of them for entering Thailand illegally.

Immigration Police Bureau deputy chief Pol Maj-General Itthipol Itthisarnronnachai said on Friday morning that a total of 522 people had been arrested at 220 different locations.

Of these, 287 were charged with having entered Thailand illegally (102 from Laos, 143 from Myanmar, 38 from Cambodia, three from India and one from Bangladesh) and 15 stand accused of overstaying their visas (five from Myanmar, four from Cambodia, three from Laos, one from Vietnam, one from India, and one from Denmark).

A further 220 people are facing a variety of other charges, which Itthipol didn't give details about (87 from Thailand, 31 from Cambodia, 79 from Myanmar, five from Laos, seven from China, three from Vietnam, three from Turkey, one from Israel, one from India, one from the Philippines, one from Iraq and one person with an unidentified nationality).

Itthipol said a high number of the arrests involved foreigners working without permission in Thailand.

soon there will be no foreigner left on LOS.

Yes, if you are an illegal alien - you seem to be a dying breed (very slowly dying -- very very slowly) ... though 500 is still a minuscule percentage of those...

And there was me thinking that the 500 illegals were rounded up a few months ago it seems that at least once a month at least another 500 are rounded up .BJ stated that he had got did of all these unwelcome guests and only genuine visa holder were left I am confused ????

most of these will work for 300 Baht a day. Thais won't. At least not in Bangkok. Too lazy. So if thai police rounds up all these foreigners and sends them back home to Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia - who will do all the factory-/serving-/ construction-/ cleaning-work?

So illegal migrants should be allowed to stay without hindrance? Only in Thailand, or all over the world?

It is a well known fact that illegals are cheaper than the real ones - and it happens in paradise too.

looks like there is a never ending supply.

I'm sure they were all gone last time. BJ was around.

Or is it some new type of,  Catch and release scam.

This is the product of their own visa rules - they just haven't quite realized it yet ...

So many foreign workers to do the work that drugged up Thai men refuse to do. Our experience has been if you pay a Thai worker for x days work, you may get one or two days and he/she are gone, usually drugged up until they are again broke where they show up at another job site.

Stereotyping is unhelpful.

He had the night off BJ with his lovely lady I'm sure. Maybe he needs to do what the Roster did. Just get life size cardboard cutouts of himself  and place at any of the immigration busts in the future he doesn't have to be there just looks like he is to get that all important photo opportunity

No farang caught hmmmm maybe we not  so bad.

Maybe you don’t understand that overstay is a ongoing problem, and always will be . Everyday aliens go into overstay so it’s not a scam .
