I think we are having a communication issue with my lovely neighbours who have an LPG car. We have a LPG Suzuki Carry that my wife told me had 5 years of test left, now she says less than one. She says it is 10,000 to do an MOT test that includes the LPG. So I asked my neighbour and she asked her husband, but she has only a few words of English - she says 15,000 to 18000 baht to test but then says it is good as new is safe so I think she is referring to a replacement installation.

So can anyone who has a LPG car give me a definitive answer as to test costs of the LPG system? My wife says a test lasts 10 years - is that right?

To be honest none of what they are telling me makes any sense!

Drive it to your nearest test centre, price around 100bht if it passes.

If it doesn't pass, take it to the next test centre.

They don't get paid if it doesn't pass.

Or you can drive it round to my place and I'll get your roadworthy test certificate for 5,000bht.

(that's 100bht for the test, 100bht in expenses (beer while I wait for them to do the test), and 4,800bht for my pocket)

If you go to an inspection station, they will want to see the original LPG inspection papers, which include the name of the engineer, photo of his ID card and license, the place of testing, date and time of test, detailed report of all that was inspected, picture of your car showing license plate and Engineer pointing to said plate.

Ours was done about 3 years ago - PJ auto Gas - 500 baht

Also performed some repairs and replaced all the o-rings in the system - 1230 baht

5 years...but my local inspection center  says  that the government will soon reduce that to yearly  gas installation inspection..I presume that cars with factory fitted tanks will only need inspection after 7 years like with the lights brakes and emissions tests, then yearly from then on.

I don't remember exactly how much they charged for an LPG inspection  but it certainly wasn't 10,000 baht    less than 2,000 I'd say.

MrJ has just told me that ...

The LPG Tank must be changed every 10 years ...ours was done last year

The system must be inspected every five years by competent LPG person...we have a 5-year certificate

Annually the is no separate LPG inspection ... just the usual annual one if the car is more than 7 years old.

She could be correct ....

I can look out the bills but not that much money for a new tank.
