Don't get mistaken. In India there's a new middle-class emerging, like in most ASEAN countries.

100% correct. But that doesn't change the culture. Indians invented Zero, Nil, Nothing. ????

Fuelled by corruption and dishonesty, also like in most ASEAN countries. They ought to fit right in.

Mostly true, there have been some very smart scientists hailing and/or mathematicians from India. Not very many though...

In the US, we call it 'Bundling'........

In the UK it's known as "all inclusive" and is now the most popular type of holiday.

At least (or more than anything) Indians invented the binary Zero - without which there would be no IT at all.

Has any one seen the Rupee Baht rates?......1,000 Rupees gets you 430 Baht......There will be no mass India tourism till this improves...

Who said anything about mass India tourism?  They are targeting wealthy Indians, of which there are many.

The Casinos in Macau have been successfully advertising in India for a while now to attract Indians with lots of money to come to Macau for shopping, dining and of course gambling.

That's because alcohol is included. For Brits its worth it. Not sure I would book "all inclusive" if I was an American. Might not get my monies worth on food alone.

Remaining westerners are the ones that no choice as all their funds either locked in property or in wife’s otherwise many have already switched to neighbouring countries  for their hospitality and welcomming nature which are no more here. Nobody who is wealthy spending his own money here likes to be thrown in the same basket and get the humiliation of being checked openly in public by the immigration police in the same way as those who are wanted for overstaying.

Seems fair, but look at it from the POV of Thais. They have to have some mechanism that allows them to feel superior in what is essentially a 3rd-world country full of 3rd-world people with poor educations. Other opportunities are few. Inventions are few and rarely original, innovations are few apart from putting a toilet roll on restaurant tables. LOS is not very inspiring really, so they rely on xenophobia to feel superior.

You're right about the Immigration police. but bear in mind their education is as minimal as everyone else's. They go to some bottom ranked university in Thailand (Rajapat or something similar), they come out with a degree in something or other easy but can't tell you where rain comes from. They have to pretend to their peers that they're somehow better than someone and foreigners are an easy mark. It's a cultural charcteristic in Thailand; try not to be hard on them, too many of them are suicidal as it is, mental illness abounds.

why doesn't this country look at something other than stealing foreign money like perhaps manufacture something using thai labor?.. No one with half a brain that doesn't have a wife, husband or kids here would want to retiree here.

I dont think the air is clean enough for the oldies even the indian variety that know a thing or 2 about pollution.

There's hundreds of empty ones in Pattaya already. Not a soul in them.

????

They are so clean, welcoming and courteous, and attract such a well behaved and pleasant clientelle, that neither my wife nor her anglo-indian friend would set foot in one. Nor would I, and I love Indian food.

Talk about seedy looking joints, in seedy looking streets......

Really?  I've heard it uttered many times over the years and never heard it pronounced as "keck". Maybe regional pronunciation differences?

I just checked with my wife she said I was right...  its the Thai vowel 'Sara Eh เเ'  ... she looked bemused when I said Cack. It can be difficult to write in English though

I'd suspect the elderly Indians that have got the cash can afford to go to better places than Thailand.

For that matter, any elderly from ANY country, who has the money, can go to better places than Thailand! It is obvious that the elderly who cannot afford to live in their own country that come to Thailand and keep complaining about it. Sad, very sad indeed!

Why would such a well-heeled person want to retire here?

I believe the news article in the OP is not about retirement in Thailand.

I suspect it a non story - the TAT isnt expecting a flood but a small tap in a large market could be beneficial is their way of thinking.
