A former teacher who is preparing to take his bar exams has accused the police of acting illegally.

Korn Karnkanokporn, 62, from Hang Dong was driving a Rot Daeng in Chiang Mai when he stopped at a market to buy tangerines for his wife.

A cop gave him a ticket even though there other Rot Daeng drivers stopping in the same place.

Korn argued that he was singled out and that other drivers stopping in that area were doing the same thing.

The cop countered that they were delivering - he was buying oranges.

Korn went to complain to the police that they were acting illegally under Article 157 that carries a six month jail term and fines of up to 200,000 baht.

The law in question pertains to civil servants doing their job in a corrupt manner.

He should know. The former teacher retired two years ago and he has studied the law and is preparing to take his final exams.

He drives a song thaew in his spare time to make ends meet before he becomes a qualified laywer.

That will confuse the BIB, someone quoting actual laws at them.

I can hear the scratching of heads and maybe searching for appropriate books to look it up. If they are lucky. they might know someone, or the phone number of someone, who knows where to look.

Citing the law is furtile against Thai authorities. I recalled the time my lawyer spoke to the land office about some registration. Land office was asking for unnecessary documents that my lawyer said was not needed for the occasion.

Lawyer : I am a lawyer and I KNOW the law !

Officer : hoo hum.. and I am the government. If you don’t provide the papers, I am not going to proceed.

Guess who won ?

This man should be sent to prison immediately. Who does he think he is by trying to use the law against the police????

If you want to hide something from Thai police then put it in a Law Book.

Only those with sufficient "tea money" surely?
