Chiang Mai

The haze is coming mainly from forest fires and farm-clearing fires raging across the North as well as in neighbouring countries.

Satellite images show 1,151 fire hotspots in the North, mostly in forests.

Most are in Mae Hong Son, with 407, while Chiang Mai has 193, Chiang Rai 137, Lampang 109 and Nan 106.

Myanmar has 12,422 and Laos 2,938.

In the tambon of Mae Salong Nok in Chiang Rai’s Mae Fah Luang district, a 62-year-old hilltribe man died on Sunday while helping authorities battle a blaze.

Volunteer Aloh Asangku fell down a steep slope at about 1am. The body was retrieved.

put the fires out. Why not get a reasonable, safe number of fire trucks from other Thai cities. even from nearby countries.

How about planes dropping whatever they drop to put out fires. USA has plenty of them. Pay the price because Songkran is around the corner and tourism could be effected this year. it might even be worse if tourist come this year. they will take away a negative message and future years could be greatly impacted. Fix the problem now so businesses can make money now and in the future.  it am sure it is worth the cost.

So how many percents is home made in Thailand and how much is imported?

Looks like Thailand cannot do much - except declare war and send water bombers (joke)

Farmers and locals burn almost everyday. They burn everything - biomass, household trash, plastics, etc. Farmers burn because slash & burn has worked for centuries and locals burn because in many areas there aren't viable alternatives. Government can't enforce because they have no solutions. Maybe they need a committee to study the problem...

That’s great, now we know where the smog originates.

now what are you going to do to address the issue?

Kick the can down the road and wait for the rain.

The responsibility of the lives of people is with whom and who is accountable ؟؟؟؟؟؟؟؟؟؟

You jest, of course.  No Thai govt official is now, nor ever has been, accountable to the people.  Thailand is a kingdom, not a democratic country.

Grow a profitable crop that doen't require burning of fields. I can think of a few. Or build a wall.

Tourists will and must be warned and aware to avoid the area, if not the country,  until things get cleared !

Ok, so it's a deliberate act, not something that should be unexpected, rather it's a well planned and executed operation which is carried out on a widespread basis every year -  100% deliberately, on purpose and without fail.

Why is this even news?

Slash & burn has worked for centuries, while nowadays there is the option on fields to plough the stubble under.

Works in the west where corn is also a cash crop.

The corn is used, the stalks become fodder, the rest is ploughed under.

Because it is now affecting tourism, another cash crop.
