3 key outs and the boys got the kicking yips last night and some stomach butterflies
You guys might be able to pick up another Sydney player in the trade period to bolster your chances next year

There's Bob Hope and no hope that the AFL will suspend Cotchin for a final.

He hit Dylan Shiels high and concussed him in the 2017 prelim and didn't go.

The goal review has become like the cricket DRS.

You can get 2 different decisions based on what the goal umpires original decision is.

Never mind Chooks.

You were always up against it with 3 out.

The bad kicking didn't help either.

I hope Port smash Richmond next week.

Is There a more unlikable team than Richmond?

Lynch is a germ.

He's a thug but a protected thug.

Lunch next week says he gets off with a fine or just gets off.

There's no chance Lynch or Cotchin are missing.

Your buy I take it?

Yeeh, but forcing a trade will only work if the opposite party is willing to meet the demand. Brisbane could equally say "forget it" and Essendon is left in a 5 year contract with a player who doesn't want to be there.
Clubs don't generally match the contract offers because there is heavy risk involved

Lot of clauses in contracts kid......and in the end Brisbane would pay (something) up just depends on whos doing the haggling, and with the prositution in the AFL Brisbane think there within there premiership window and are unlikley to pass on a mature body forward even on one leg, Hogan with issues still Freo payed out a low first round pick....

Look players are professionals this isnt the school yard you get payed to play in the end whos paying you is who your playing for, i think the Dee's fell over to easy for the Hogan deal think the Bombers are well with in there rights to push for a good deal...NIKE...just do it....you carry some of these guys for years then they go off to play for someone else....

Free Agency was meant to work for clubs to pilliage a club like the Tigers that had an abundence of top quality middle tire players who couldnt be accommodated in there salary cap, with the odd star moving, this is how it works in the US, the game is changing faster than we are soon its going to look like the NFL like itor not....

Has any club matched a free agency offer to a player?

Doesnt make any sense to keep an uncontracted player who obviously wants out

Pretty hard when the ball only comes in 11 times in a half of footy.

Bucks wasn't a fan of tall forwards after the game.

Coaches that continue to play roulette with playing 5 forwards will always struggle if their midfield doesn't dominate.

Think they ran out of steam, always hard after a road trip to Perth.

The 4 teams left seem to be playing the best footy.

Yep

Probably because the Pies don't have a dominant tall forward.

Give me a Charlie Dixon, Hawkins or JK any day of the week.

Reckon the Pies played their GF last week.

The best 4 sides left.

What a humiliating smashing for Collingwood. I didnt see that coming. ????

Looks like the Dad's army from Geelong march to fight once more
Order of desire i'd like to see teams win the GF
Brisbane ????
Port ????
Geelong ????
Richmond ????

Essendon losing another player by the looks of it

I guess Essendon could go done the Uncle Alex path and match all offers, maybe chain the players up behind bars between games as well.

Wat a mess!

Some good recruiting from the Saints last year with 4 of the 5 new guys coming top 10.

Brad Hill missing the top 10 and on 800 large a year was the only disappointment really.

Fantasia is under contract so Essendon should play hard ball I reckon.

Fantasia's best is really good but 33 games in the last 3 years is a worry.

Thats what essendon said last year about Daniher and playing hardball cost them leverage and look where they are.

Pointless trying to keep him if he really wants out. Get the beat deal they can now while they have some chips to play

Id love to be negotiating with you, hey your unhappy...ok we let you go for 2 bikkies and a cup of coffee....

Your mate up there at the Swans wanted out last year....So what shall we say...hey paps you wanted out last year you can go now for free.....

The art of negotiation is having something that is of value and they only have something of value if he is under contract once the contract ends Essendon has less to negotiate with.

Rather than playing old school tough guys like yourself and some others why not try to get the best deal in your example of Tom papley Sydney did not want him to go but they understood that he was very keen to go and they thought well if he doesn't want to stay in Sydney let's get a deal done for the best we can.

As it was they couldn't get the  deal done because Essendon wouldn't come to the table on Joey Danaher and look how it worked out for Essendon they lost their chance at supposedly two first round draught picks and as it is they could end up with a late first round or a second-round pick the Joey Danaher

The key is to be flexible mate we're not living in the past any more people know whatthey want to move on got to get the best deal you can.

The risk of keeping a player against his will under contract at a club for another year is going to have an effect on all the players around him and create dissatisfaction. Cut the ties and get what you can while you can.

That is the smart play .

A deal will get done but as he's under contract, you don't have to give him away.

Because of his injuries, I reckon a late 2 rounder or early third will get it done.

That's good in theory but Sydney didn't do that.

It's not about being "old school tough guys", it's about not getting reamed,

which is exactly why Sydney kept Papely.

Uncle Alex, your boy going to GWS.

Puzzling decision why he went to Melbourne in the first instance I thought.

BRAYDON Preuss is headed for a third AFL club, with the Melbourne ruckman nominating Greater Western Sydney as his preferred new home.

Yes I mentioned the Papley trade didnt do through as the deal couldn't be made to suit Sydney.

Sydney never wanted to trade away Papley but he made a case he wanted to go back home so Sydney was willing to try and do a trade on the right terms.

Much like essendon should have done last year

The Papley trade was not the same as the Essendon trades of Daniher, Fantasia, Saad.

Those 3 players wanted/want out of the club because they were/are disillusioned with Essendon.

Papley was okay with the Swans but family/GF reasons made him seek a trade to Carlton.

Essendon had a great deal trade for a player in Daniher who didn't want to be there and was disillusioned with the Club. At the time a cadre of Essendon greats , including Matthew Lloyd was saying to play hardball with Joey. Classic old school tough guys.

Essendon just asked for too much and their leverage would disappear after 1 more year, which it has

So you have Essendon playing old school tough guys hardball and failing with a player who was showing signs of loathing his club and didn't want to be there.

Then you have Sydney who had a player in Papley who still liked the club, and had committed to playing his contract out if a trade couldn't be done.

Different player motivations for wanting to leave and different messaging from their teams in attempting to trade.

I'd say Sydney attempted to trade in good faith, despite not wanting to lose Papley,  whereas Essendon made trade terms that could never be reasonably met.

Despite these recent lessons, now there is still talk of playing hardball with Fantasia, another payer who is unhappy with Essendon management/coaching and has been for over 12 months.

Talk about cutting off the nose to spite the face

The talk about Fantasia is that he's OK with the club but has been homesick for quite a while.
