A mother in Lampang in Thailand's north went to report to police after her ten year old son needed 38 stitches in a head wound.

He was the victim of someone on the back of a pick-up that threw water at him containing a large lump of ice.

Thanicha Khlaikaew, 28, told Pol Capt Sayan Maneekaew that her son was playing by the side of the Tha Khrao Noi road at 1pm on Saturday when he was hit by the ice in the water.

It was thrown by a man in a striped shirt on a bronze color Vigo pick-up.

The vehicle sped off as people tried to stop it.

The boy's grandmother Bunreuang Khlaikaew, 64, said it was terrible. The lump of ice had spikes like a durian and caused a total of seven wounds to her grandson's head.

He needed 38 stitches and the cost at the hospital was 7,000 baht.

Thaivisa notes that stories in the Thai media before Songkran suggested that people could go to jail for such illegal behavior.

Such a thoughtless act.

People should spend a few months in jail for actions like this, and unfortunately they not uncommon. It's just that most don't result in such ghastly results

Thaivisa notes the Thai media as suggesting a jail term be handed down for this offense.

It is surly the place of the police to warn perpetrators of arrests and as in this case a charge of grevios bodily harm be implemented.

I wonder how many small ice cubes it takes to inflict a wound so serious it needs 38 stitches?

What you don't understand is that it wasn't caused by "small ice cubes", but large chunks of ice. The victim was very lucky it didn't hit his eye.

My daughter's eyes were burning last night after being doused in many buckets of water on the way home from town. Somebody put something nasty in the water.

Thing is, you never know where that water is coming from either.  Antibiotic drops in her eyes last night and she seems fine today.

A learning lesson for next year event? Hope she'll be ok, eye infections are very widespread in Thailand.

You didn't bother to read the post I was responding to did you? Copied below so read it and you will understand better.

"More than likely it was an accident. When the ice melts and gets small it easy to scoop up some ice accidently with the water"

Time to start charge everyone who escapes scenes of accidents with attempted murder.

just how are they going to be caught....it is an impossibility...

Or what may have been added to it to deliberately cause harm

Weirdest comment I've read this week. People get caught all the time after they've escaped from crimes and accidents. There are cameras everywhere and often witnesses to identify the perpetrators.
