You mean we should be a bit more understanding with the guy because he asked to pay her before the rape?

No, I'm saying that we don't live in an ideal world. I fully agree that women should be allowed to wear what they want, where they want. If we're talking St Tropez this all works out fine, but we're not, we're in Thailand. (This also applies in places like Dubai, where a couple are arrested for having sex on the beach, which would be all fine & dandy if they were in Marbella).

Another example, a farang guy ends up at the police station, the cops want 85,000 Baht for all charges to disappear. The guy thinks to himself "This isn't how things happen where I come from!"

Five years later the guy walks out of prison. He's applied first World thinking to a third World situation.

In no way am I saying that's right, but as many TV members know and would agree, that's just the way it is.

Passed out drunk with my phone and wallet on the table in front of me doesn't warrant being robbed either.

But some places in the world you just need to be a bit more careful than you are in your living room.

............... if you want to avoid becoming a victim.

Yes when one is passed out and gets robbed well that is down to stupidity and lack of control more than anything else. However getting robbed is a completely different crime than being raped, if for no other reason than the horror of the violation! When one is incarcerated for rape even the prisoners can tell the difference! The lowest of the low commit this type of crime, more often than not "predatory cowards" sick fXXXs who if proven guilty 100% deserve the death penalty.   I for 1 would much rather be robbed!!!

You do understand not all cultures attach so much value to consent?

In Muslim culture there is no such thing as consent, you are either married and have sex when your husband says, or are single and sex is a criminal offence.

When one goes to Lopburi, one should be careful not to leave food, drinks and personal belongings invitingly unattended, because some monkeys will just snatch and run away with it. We all know, it is not right to snatch people's things, and it is also one's right to do as one pleases (carry a bag, eat an ice-cream, leave the camera next to you on the table etc.) but well, these are monkeys. Even humans snatch and steal, what of monkeys?

Similarly, women - especially single travellers - should be careful and avoid dressing too revealingly or provocatively when they are on these third-world islands. Before you slam me for making such a remark, let it be known that, on these islands, one is not amongst the company of humans, nor any beings capable of intellect.

Does it? Maybe in your book, not in mine, and hopefully not in the majority of men.

It's more likely to in the third World, I don't think it's justified any more than you do.

Despite all of your virtue-signalling, hand-wringing, & moral-outrage.

Passed out drunk dressed provocative regardless doesn't warrant being raped

Of course not, but a little self-awareness can sometimes save a lot of grief. To be fair, in this case we don't know whether or not the drinks of the young lady in question may have been spiked.

I'll make sure I quote you back if/when your g/f, wife or daughter gets raped here. Or do you make her wear a burkha every time she ventures out?

Exact, more she should have been protected and looked after until she woke and recovered.

why single people go to this sh.thole place with all the previous rapes and murders is beyond

common sense, even tho you should be safe. Glad they got him anyway, just have to say must not have been any burmese on the island.

If it's as open and shut as has been reported, a hefty sentence needs to be levied to show this kind of nonsense won't be covered up like it has been before

I get you, but the guy in the picture has no money, power or influence ans his Daddy won't have any either. So, yes, he will go to jail but only cause he ain't connected. Innit!

Where did the Irishman go. Nice of him to leave her passed out in public, rather than make sure she is safe.

It was not reported that he had left the premises - if the opening hours are non-stop, we may assume he is still there ....

YOU HAD OT GOTTEN SO DRUNK THT YOU PASSED OUT HE WOULD NOT HAVE HAD THE CHANCE TO RAPE YOU.

That is an assumption of what happened

would it have been different if she had been walking home ?

People right or wrong expect to be safe in a country that has been a top tourist destination for decades so who is actually at fault here

I am just glad this girl wasn't set upon by some Thai thug who lost face in a bar earlier and battered her head to a pulp with a nearby hoe or rock then placed her in a humiliating undignified pose to send a message and also murdered her fararang male friend who tried to intervene and save her life.

These Islands are dangerous because there are Thai males and young farang women socialising together in bars - they become prey to these scum thugs who all protect themselves from the law because they are connected

It doesn't warrant it, but it invites it.

no seriously it doesnt in the slightest,

nothing can be more off turning than trying to have sex with a woman that just aint horny, it will not matter in the slightest if she is sexy or not.

rape is not about sex at all in my experience

What is offensive about handcuffs so they are blurred in the Mail's images, unlike the alleged rapist's face. I thought the law had changed with regard to this (yes, I know the Mail is an English "newspaper" but they got the pictures from somewhere).
