The Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) is calling for people – Thai or foreign – to volunteer as “Marine Rangers” in order to protect coral reefs and other coastal areas, including mangroves, from damage by irresponsible tour operators or other unscrupulous parties.

“We need more Marine Rangers who have pure hearts to protect coral reefs, protected marine animals, mangroves and other valuable natural resources along the west coast of Thailand, including Phuket,” DMCR Director-General Jatuporn Buruspat told The Phuket News this week.

I may be a sceptic but tour groups are far to shameless to allow this cash cow to slip away.......they will find a way...

volunteers may want to prepare for being murdered for 'unfair treatment' of thieves, liars, extortionists & murderers...

They want foreigners but no English version of the sign up page.  Ya, that works.  My teens and I are AOW and would love to do this.

I'll volunteer for this, will fill out the application on the website later.

You may consider expanding on your statement with a personal experience or verifiable reports of such things that have happened. Unsubstanciated statements are typical of the scare mongering and the negative mindset that prevails in so many responses to a story that has a positive side to it.

Where does it mention that?
