Several people do not seem to understand the situation.

A puppet government is acceptable.

If it becomes impossible to form one then the regime carries on in its current form, with rule by decree.

Because the civilian, would be members of government, will have proven themselves:

"lacking in the devotion and commitment to unification, reconciliation and progress, and too selfish to sacrifice personal ambition for the greater good of the kingdom and its people".

Or something similar.

There is no requirement for a coup.

I agree. The new constitution does not prescribe a deadline to elect a new PM. As long as the puppet Senate is able to prevent the opposition from getting 375 votes, Prayuth can remain in power.

No need for a coup.

True but that depends on the royal endorsement of the lower house speaker and deputies and the issuance of notification to elect the PM. The royal endorsement was received on Friday and its reported that Chuan will notify all parliamentarians today. If he notify, the houses must sit and elect in 3 days. Let’s see if Chuan issue the notification. If he did, I think he has something up his sleeves and may surprised.

The negotiations are no longer about who will lead the new government, but only about how high the compensation of the supporting parties will have to be.

Wow, can you imagine the size of that brown envelope!

Or perhaps a lunch-box or fifty? That was the preferred method of 'transportation' for payments to judges in some previous lawsuits.

???? Why is it so difficult for them to form and hold together a government? As soon as this charade is over the next coup will already be in its planning stages.

The problem is actually simple. You have to partires which half the country hate.

Solution is also simple but will not happen.  FFP DEM But coalition. Let the PT and ppp rot

Sorry should have added not likely to happen

In 1989, as the Communist governments of eastern Europe began to fall, the first sign that something was happening was a government putting out a news release saying that nothing was happening.

But something happened.

East Germans wanted the Deutsch Mark, and they got the Euro. And now, with the decline of the Eurozone, everything is heading south.

Wonder which parties and individuals will be accused of starting and spreading the 'rumor.'

...and to reduce the credibility of the current government.

How could it possibly have any less credibility? ????

somebody had intended to spread the groundless rumors

Isn't that the nature of a rumor - speculation?

If a rumor were grounded in fact, it wouldn't be a rumor.

So far as the possibility of Prayut declaring a State of Emergency or invoke Article 44, he has used the latter most frequently (even last week) to bypass laws achieve his political agendas and the former just recently to extend the State of Emergency in the South in order to suspend human rights and due process of law.

So there might be some plausible basis with his PM in potential jeopardy that he could exercise his constitutional right to invoke Article 44 (more likely than a State of Emergency) to advance the term of his premiership.

If there has been someone to confuse the public in regard to setting up a new government, it has been from the beginning the EC. Instead Prayut is now late to his own 'party'. He shouldn't blame the public for any confusion. When you create a monster, you can't expect it to become Cinderella.

Yeah, just like him and his elite if think losing or the possibility of not getting of not getting what you want. Eradicate all you can prior and if that is not successful enough then wipe the slate clean leaving only you and your group at the top back to square one of full control again.

Such rumours would confuse the public???? I thought that had already been and is being done via 'coalition...this & that...undecided etc etc.' Geez!

the wheels of change are turning will the PM use force to stay in total power? I agree with him that 500 MPs is far too many at the troth it is costing the country way too much

...State of Emergency = Martial Law.. no need for a Coup.

As per forum policy, I'm sure that this rumor is 100% fake news and the Good General has had no such intentions. Ever.

That said, his intention to stage a coup was denied right until it finally happened. So whatever might happen, I won't be surprised.

See the circus is planning to extend its stay due to high demand from the public for the ongoing entertainment. The dog and pony show has garnered the highest rating of all time.

We are all waiting happily for a next installment of the TS & YS Show then?

Future developments could

be interesting with the recent change in the chain of command.

Good point, it may just ultimately be a continuation of before? Who knows

Please use discretion in your references to the government. Phrases which can be considered as anti-coup will be removed. Referring to Thailand or the government as a dictatorship, military dictatorship or other such terms will be removed.

Because the entire system was designed from the ground up to create a weak system of easily bought parties.

This is the desired result, not an accident.

The very reason Thailand is so screwed up, but you can't blame the poor farmers who's first priority is survival - - and who cares, certainly not the government.
