Renowned Writer Seriously Injured in Zebra Crossing Collision
Picture captured from CCTV. A well-known writer has been left in a critical condition after being struck by a van while using a zebra crossing in Bangkok. On the early morning of 24th February, Police Lieutenant Patinya Kaewratana of the Plubplachai 1 Police Station received a report of a serious accident involving a van and a pedestrian at a zebra crossing in front of Wat Disanukaram on Worachak Road, Pom Prap Sattru Phai district. Emergency services from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation were dispatched to the scene. At the crash site, authorities found a Toyota Hilux Revo van, registered in Bangkok, driven by 67-year-old Wanchai Warakorn. The vehicle had collided with 69-year-old Songwit Dolprasith, a prominent writer and researcher in the field of arts and culture, best known for his work Hanuman Chan Samorn. The impact hurled Mr Songwit’s body approximately 30 metres, leaving him unconscious on the road. Rescue personnel provided emergency first aid before transferring him to Thonburi Bamrungmuang Hospital. Preliminary investigations revealed that the van had been travelling along Worachak Road from Maen Sri intersection towards Worachak intersection when it struck Mr Songwit as he crossed from Wat Disanukaram towards the opposite side of the road. Doctors later confirmed that Mr Songwit had suffered a fractured pelvis and internal bleeding. He has since been transferred to Klang Hospital for further treatment. Police are continuing their investigation into the incident. -- 2025-02-25 -
