This is not a gripe about British citizenship or Visas,

Yesterday I went with a friend and his Thai wife, she had Just got her British Citizenship,

At the Ceremony Everybody took an oath, as they do, When their name is called out they stand and approach the person doing the acceptance . What got me was a Chinese man who was there to receive his British Citizenship,

When his name was called he could not even understand his name , His family had to communicate with him in Chinese, and take the oath for him.

This is  Double standards, as My friends Thai wife, and all the other British Guys who bring their Thai partner to the UK, Have to sit a Life in the UK test to prove they can integrate and fit into British Society,

They have to prove their Understanding of Basic English,  In the test they have to answer some Questions in English,  . So how does this work when a person who cannot speak or understand Basic English gets Citizenship.

Does this not smack of double standard, This is not the first time, We had the same at my wife's Citizenship  award,  A few years ago. I ask a question after a ceremony  to a Official who was there. How can he get a British Citizenship when he cannot speak or understand Basic English, I did not get an Answer.

No double standard involved here. Just different strokes for different folks. Money makes the world go around, citizenships are being sold all over Europe. Malta especially is making a bundle on it.

How old was he? If he was over 65 or he has a physical or mental condition that prevents him from meeting the requirement he wouldn’t need a language test.

Canada basically sold the west coast to the Chinese which drove up housing prices so high that the average home in Van. is unattainable. Then they washed the proceeds of their mafia activities through the real estate transactions, casinos and anywhere that greed would trump ethics. This was after flooding the country with hard drugs that killed thousands. These 'communists' make capitalists look like rookies.

ok for British tax payers to give him a life time of care then, while other People have to jump through hoops and pay for visas , with  No recourse to public funds stamped in their passports.

You've changed your gripe then. ???????? If it was your friend's Thai mother in law, she would be able to forgo the language test. I don't know the answer to your latest complaint but I would think it's assumed that somebody beyond retirement age will bring younger members of their family with them who do contribute to the system.

Not sure why I am defending the visa system of this country because quite a bit of it sucks.

My favourite is that of people with diplomatic status when they come to the UK. They are not subject to a TB test. Almost as if their diplomatic passport forms a protective TB anti bacteria shield over their family...

Describing your complaint as a gripe is hardly insulting.???? I thought it was quite tactful and hardly a reason to leave Thai visa, surely?
