Probably the complete and utter lack of pavement gives the Baht bus a slight edge, but from Hellfire junction to Tree town, foot is way faster. Baht buses a waste of space there.

Because the pedestrians block the Baht busses. Time to remove the pedestrians from Soi Buakhao. They are too stupid to realize that there is no pavement but only a street and so they should not walk there. Would cars drive in a walking street? Probably not... ????

The way I read the translated version of the Facebook page article, I thought it was talking about the idea of having those streets turned into "car free" roadways where only the light rail line would run....or at least, not regular car traffic....

Change road cars Is a car-free zone

Stick the steel rail on the floor. Prepare to take the light rail train. Or Tram come to service next year 2020

???? Increase walkway area
???? Reduce congestion

No, the baht buses try to drive down the footpath, as do all other vehicles on Buakhao. In the absence of pavements, the road is the footpath, and foot-traffic has priority. .

Cars do drive on Walking St, just not at night!

Don't think the business owners there would be happy with this.

Or than, eventually, remove all businesses from Soi Bukhao.

At some point in the future to reassure tourists, the Family Resort Police will descend in force on the tram lines,... and won't find anything at all: no prostitution, no lady boys, no thieves, no conductors, no trams, no tracks

The problem is that Soi Buakhao has not the infrastructure for all these many bars. If the bars would be for instance on the 3rd road there would be no problem at all. But Pattaya does not use zoning and so such and other problems like noise pollution arise. But perhaps Indian tourists walking in groups untouchable like holy cows on their roads at home will force a solution. ????

Absolutely absurd design. As long as baht buses are available people will use them because they are too lazy to walk to and from a tram station. If the tram cost more than 10 baht it is doomed from the start. Streets in the design are already small and just not big enough to handle a surface tram system.

A surface tram can only work where people obey the law and give right of way. No one will not give right of way to a tram in "me first" Thailand. Trams be slow because they will move at the speed of even more congested traffic.

The blue line is a horrible route. It can easily take 10 minutes to get through the Big C Pattaya Klang traffic light now. How can a surface tram possibly work.
Only one switch station? That makes it useless for people in South Pattaya to use the blue line.

An elevated tram will still take some on the very limited roadway but at least it will be a lot faster travel time.

It will take years to build so there will be total kaos for an extended time.

Start by banning the "Chinese" buses transporting people around town. No bus parking permitted on ANY Pattaya street. Limit/reduce the number of baht buses and require new ones to be larger to hold about 24 people jeepney style. Better yet screw the baht bus mafia and use real buses and forget the tram.

You make some good points but one thing I don't agree with is your statement that the streets 'are already small'.  Not really.  Both Beach Road and Second Road, the primary route of the red line, are both fairly wide.  If parking was eliminated they could accommodate a tram.  For the tram to work, baht buses would have to be removed from the tram route and assigned to roads not served by the tram.  They could then serve as feeders to get passengers to the trams.  Getting rid of the parking and reassigning the baht buses would be difficult but don't see the tram working without it--too congested already.

Appears to be a good idea on paper. The environmental study should definitely be in favour of electric transportation as in every other city in the world. I like the baht busses but they are not good for the environment when there are so many belching diesel fumes 24/7. They will have to look at reducing traffic anyway to be able to use the existing roads.

As in previous posts, they have to get the basic infrastructure in place first, i.e. drainage etc.

while they are at it, use electric motors on the parachute boats!

better still, built a parachute simulator and stick all the Chinese tourists in there.

And they even could use these simulators in China directly. No need to block the Beach Road with their busses anymore.

Just imagine, with a little positivity, that the entire loop around beach road and second road had just the tram and no other traffic. Wouldn’t that be wonderful. I’m all in favour of this. Of course, there’s still room for a few motorbike taxis too.

Big problems in Pattaya are 2:

1 a road like Soi Buakhaow a two-way traffic despite being very narrow and with many roadside activities, while roads are wider like Beach Road and Second Road are one-way.

2 taxi drivers who do what they want, stop everywhere without a minimum rule.
The police said 2 years ago that it reduced the number of taxis in Soi Buakhao to avoid traffic congestion, the rule lasted about a month and now taxis do what they still want.

Certainly a solution, like a tram would be very valid.

Does the proposed Tram Line go down Soi Bukhao, I don’t think so which would make it even busier with Baht Buses looking for business.

it states quite clearly on Baht Buses that they only stop at recognised stops, there isn’t any on Soi Bukhao.

I am sure a couple of years ago they stopped Baht Buses going along Soi Bukhao but as been quoted it didn’t last very long basically because it was never enforced,
