Rak Siam News reported that Pattaya police were called after a Thai woman reported she had been robbed at knife point on beach road Jomtien.

The incident happened to Wasana, 46, as she sat near the Dong Tan police booth around 8.30 pm last night.

She told Captain Maneerak Jansanthia that she had been sitting down when a poorly dressed Thai man came and sat down next to her.

She said he was 160 cms tall, wearing a black shirt and long pants.

He started telling her his life's worries and she lent a sympathetic ear.

Then it turned nasty.

The man produced a knife and demanded that she hand over the contents of her bag.

He got an iPhone 10 worth 45,000 baht, an iPhone 5 worth 4,000 baht, $100 in US currency and about 4,000 baht cash. It all added up to over 50,000 baht worth of goods, she said.

The man then sauntered off as if nothing had happened, she said.

Several posters on the Rak Siam News site expressed skepticism about the story.

Police are investigating but have yet to get a positive lead in the case.

The Pattaya Police site on Facebook reported a quick arrest of the suspect in the case of a woman robbed at knife point on Jomtien beach road yesterday evening.

The thief was named only as "Mao" that means drunk in Thai. He was taken on a mini-enactment to the scene of the crime in handcuffs and what appeared to be his pajamas.

The 27 year old had approached the woman who the police said was a Thai tourist with US nationality. She had been sitting near the Dong Tan police booth.

He was arrested in Jomtien Soi 3 at 3 am this morning with a knife in his waistband.

A search of his room revealed the loot - two phones, credit cards and foreign currency.

He has been charged with theft at night.

Police said his previous crimes were 2010 selling drugs in Yannawa, 2012, robbery in Bang Rak, 2009 attempted robbery in Noppawong, and 2 cases of drug taking and one of theft in Pattaya.

So why is he not in jail already? Repeat offender, clearly will offend again. Amazing...

Btw, a 'Thai tourist with US nationality'? - Isn't she simply American then?? What's next; an American tourist with Thai nationality?? Worse than Hitler's race ideology!

There weren't 7 officers available to point at him when they were about to take the arrest photo...

He pleaded innocence. "I must have been sleep walking."

It's for my kids' school uniforms and lunch money... I know that Thais don't do that to other Thais, but her nationality is 'U.S.', so, technically, she's a 'falang' and therefore considered fair game...

Glad to see you changed the A for a Y, but it is always plural, you cannot have a pyjama, like a trouser, it must be a pair.   LOL

As a non-native English speaker willing to learn: it sounds funny, that he produced a knife. Is that correct English?
