Immigration told me I dont have to do TM28 or 30 when coming back from Europe

I dont live in a tourist area. We rent a building and have a small business. I have a yellow book. I asked the immig officer if we have to do any TM forms when 

coming back to thailand. He said  no. 

 

Also, I asked him if I can do minor repair work outside our building. I said I dont have a WP. He said its ok bc Im not earning a salary. 

 

Not all immigration officers are bad. He is really friendly at our office

... well, congrats, could be some shortliving info you got there though, talking out of experience, smooth sailing at my local franchise not half a year ago - but now: 'new team' ... same-same bs, but different ...

My local Immigration Office told me the exact opposite in that my Thai wife has to submit a TM30 every time I return from a trip out of Thailand.

They also said that she does not have to submit a TM30 when I return from any overnight or longer trips within Thailand.

If there is one thing consistent within Thai Immigration it's the inconsistency.

1. As far as I know, there is no immigration office that requires a TM28 when returning to the same address after an overseas trip. This is subject to change.
2. It is good news for you that your office does not require a TM30 when returning to the same address after an overseas trip. However, recognise that this is subject to change.
3. Your experience with respect to TM30 at your office has absolutely no relevance to other offices. Further, without knowing which office you use, the information is worthless even for those using the same office.
4. I suspect the immigration official is correct about you being able to carry out small repairs without a work permit. However, his advice is just an unqualified opinion by someone who does not work in your local Labor Department office (or, indeed, any Labor Department office).

I too had the same experience in Jomtien last year. I have expressed the opinion it is not the office that determines the variability of responses but the visa one is holding and your relationship to your address. I think if you have used and agent and thus have been aided by a senior IO, then you get less hassle. Also, when I moved into my condo, I did all the paperwork correctly.

Sadly it is. All it demonstrates is the variation around the country. First option is to comply with the rules as written, second option, when one figures it out, is to comply as is implemented where you have to deal with them. 

If one is really capable, avoid them altogether.

If you "own" you are ur own landlord, so i'd say yes,

I use Suphanburi office. I tried to do the TM28 (address change) when moving from BKK but they did not want one. However, I needed to do a TM30 and my wife do it online since then.

With my extensive experience with Chiangmai Immigration at the old and new locations I’ve come to the conclusion that every Thai Immigration officer has there own interpretation of the written laws, rules and guidelines . . . . . After an overnight stay in Chiangrai province and returning on a Saturday afternoon I did my due diligence and reported to the Immigration Office “Yes it’s open at the weekend”  . . . . Their response was “Only one night in Chiangrai Province” Goodbye ! . . . . .

This was said many times in the past, but in recent times most immigration offices require a TM30 after re-entering Thailand.

Yes, but only from you. The landlord / possessor of the place where you stay has to notify immigration as well. (In case that you are your own landlord this is obviously redundant, but immigration doesn't know this beforehand. Only a low percentage of foreigners is in this situation anyway)

I have said it several times on this forum. Senior IO at Jomtien told me for long term residents (retirement and marriage extensions) need to complete a tm28/tm30 on permanent change of residence then no need for tm30 in any circumstances. Went abroad in May, 90 day report in August, tm30 not mentioned.
