Sunderland AFC takeover: The full details behind the men investing in the Black Cats

After a considering a number of investment proposals, Stewart Donald is set to allow the American businessmen to take a stake in the Black Cats – although both he and Charlie Methven will remain as shareholders. And with a new company have been formed today, a deal looks set to be completed in the near future.

So who are the three members of the new company, and how much are they worth? We take a look:

JOHN PHELAN

Estimated worth: In the billions

Business interests: Co-founder and co-managing partner of MSD Capital.

GLENN FUHRMAN

Estimated worth: In the billions

Business interests: Co-founder and co-managing partner of MSD Capital.

ROBERT PLATEK

Estimated worth: In the millions

Business interests: Portfolio Manager at MSD Capital.

MICHAEL DELL

Estimated worth: $31.8billion

Business interests: Founder, Chairman and CEO of Dell Technologies

The most well-known of the consortium, and the man believed to be injecting most of the capital, is Dell – the founder of the famous technology company of the same name. A regular on the Forbes Rich List – ranking 25th in the most recent edition – Dell is one of America’s most high-profile billionaires. However, he is expected to be a passive, minority shareholder in the Black Cats – with Phelan, Platek and Fuhrman expected to take a bigger stake.

I know ... I know ... we're in League 1. Blah! Blah! Blah! It might take 3-5 years, but we're on our way back to becoming the Bank of England club.

Ha'waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!

Hope so, but knowing our luck they'll invest pennies and sell us on for a dollar.

Hope its not premature ejaculation and the deal actually goes through.

With the 8th highest home attendance and 12th highest average home attendance last season you'll be a bargain for any party who's willing to invest properly in the club and the team.

I find it sad that an English football club supporter is rejoicing that they are getting rich foreign owners prepared to "invest millions or billions".

I would much rather have a sensibly run club, owned by either a supporter's group or a local businessman who "gets" the club and loves the club for other than get rich quick methods or how much is the land worth that the stadium sits on.

There is a reason Sunderland got in this mess, like several others.

Just look at what is happening at Sheffield United. You make your bed...

I am very proud of my club's owners and how the club is being run, we are probably in the the best health we've been in for decades, fantastic academy, great new training facility (paid for last year by a funded supporter share scheme), marvelous owners who love the club, everyone on the same page from the board to the coaches, it's a great time to be a Norwich City FC supporter...

You might think differently if your club was in a similar situation these past 20 years to Sunderland.

There are good and bad British  owners and good and bad foreign  owners.

After 40+ years following Sunderland I couldn't care less what a Norwich City fan thinks. If we become the Bank of England club again, then so be it. I've seen plenty of rubbish players, managers and owners. A few more in the future won't make much difference, but it's nice to dream about a return to the Premier League in 3-5 seasons from now.

I would prefer to have home 11 grown players from the academy pushing on and making it in the first team. Sadly, that doesn't happen anymore. Many of them get hoovered up by the top 6 clubs. That's the way it is. If we have to become like them to have any chance of future success, why not? We would match their levels of support on a match day if we had a consistently successful team.

I did. Sorry about that.

Michael Dell is a passive investor, not a shareholder or director in the new company.

Soft penalty to rob a point at Bolton yesterday. Never mind new owners, who will your new manager be?

Up the Whites!!!

Would be better off without a manager. Jack Dross is draining the life out of Sunderland's promotion campaign.

Bolton were well worth their point, and unlucky not to secure all three. They really threw their bodies in the way of everything to try and hold onto their lead.

You are still in a play off place, so plenty of time to get to the top 2.

We need to get enough points to stay up. We are taking baby steps but the signs are good. Next up Blackpool on Monday night, live on TV. Might have to find a bar showing it.

So this is really the "It's NOT happening! Ha'way the lads!" thread.

It wasn't. Then it was. Then it wasn't again. Then it was again. Then it wasn't yet again. But not it seems that it is. Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!

SUNDERLAND'S super-rich American bidders are pulling out of takeover talks over the valuation of the club.

The League One sleeping giants have been told the shock news after MSD Partners spent over a month trying to finalise a deal.

The group, led by Glenn Fuhrman and backed by Dell computer cash, were unhappy with the buy-out plan after due diligence.

Owner Stewart Donald hoped to sell for a good price and keep a major say in the Black Cats.

But the Americans have too many questions unanswered.

The parties discussed initial figures over a multi-million sale before Fuhrman flew in to push on with the deal a few weeks ago.

Those numbers changed after queries were raised by the American's legal team during a lengthy investigation.

The Americans felt  Sunderland was over-valued and also doubted whether they had as many assets on the academy side as they were led to believe.

Now Donald and his men are on the look-out for other investors.

He is also under pressure to sack boss Jack Ross but that would be a costly exercise.

Club Statement : Jack Ross Leaves SAFC

OCTOBER 8, 2019 BY RTGADMIN

Sunderland AFC announced this afternoon that it had terminated the contract of manager Jack Ross.

SAFC chairman Stewart Donald said: “This is a decision that has been made with a heavy heart. When we arrived at the club 18 months ago, we appointed Jack because we felt that he was the right man to take Sunderland forward over a number of years.

“Jack has worked extremely hard, and has helped us achieve stability at the club, and I sincerely thank him for his efforts. I hope and believe that he will go on to have a successful career in management.”

Assistant manager James Fowler has been placed in temporary charge of first team affairs and will oversee this evening’s home game against Grimsby Town in the leasing.com Trophy. The process to appoint a new Sunderland manager will commence tomorrow.

Is it right that ex Bolton boss Phil Parkinson is nailed on for this? Opinion about him from Bolton fans is divided. Some give him credit for coping with dignity in very trying circumstances, others hated a negative "hoofball" style of play and couldn't see the back of him quick enough. Has previous for getting teams promoted from League 1, not so good in the Championship though.
