Where are Inner City Street Food Locations

Recommended Posts

Some friends are coming in for an overnight stop over and they are keen for street food but I have taken them to Yaowarat, Thonburi, Wong Wian Yai and places like that before. A lot of the street food seems to have disappeared from just south of Victory Monument too.

Is there anywhere relatively close to the city centres Suk, Silom etc that has a good range of street food in one soi?

I really can't think of anywhere without going out past Ari or out to Thong Lor.

Any street will do.

Really? Any soi in Bangkok has a variety of street food in one location such fish maw soup, wing bean salad, noodle adventures in the garden, jok, deep fried fermented pork, waterfall salad and things of that nature.

Because I am really struggling to find them all in one area. I ended up taking them to Wong Wian Yai and then to Pinklao for some local choices.

Personally, i'd keep away from chinatown.  Too many chinese.

I did find the Thaniya Plaza area loaded with food vendors when i went to look at golf sticks. And also some Spas, Massage joints, Karaoke halls, maybe Red Lamp stalls too!  If interested.

Talat Phlu near Talat Phlu railroad station is good.

I love the Bang Rak food Court near Saphan Taksin

Okay, Tony. That is day time. And where exacatly is that Khao Gaeng shop... It doesn't have the variety of dishes I discussed. What is the point of your post?

That is a single street stall.

I'm Sorry, I think I just asked a rational questions into the eyes of some unhappy and jaded people. I have found new places for my regular visitors to go.

Across from The Mall, Bang Kapi (Happy Land), tons of street food.  Also, Huai Kwang area... I can give you specifics if needed... Generally, there will be some small sois near the MRT stations, but not right on top of them, with multiple food vendors.. the after work hours will be peak time, unless it is a night market.

Take the purple line to Central Rattanatibet and next to it is a huge market in the weekend. They have 100 thai restaurants there now and loads of streetfood and so much more.....every night in the weekend.

Yep, heard that was pretty good.

I'd recommend Terminal 21 food court. As a rule I don't like food courts but there's some decent food to be found. Nothing edgy. Cheap, AC and central.

Huay Kwang opposite side of Pracharat Bampen road. Food stalls and some cheap seafood runs about 150m down the street. Starts about three minute walk from Ratchada.

If you want an absolutely killer bowl on noodles. Fortune Town CP food court. Koey Teaw Sukothai. Order it phe-set (special).

Lunch time there's a huge somewhat hidden food court outdoor sort of across from Srinkarinwirot University. Not easily spotted from street. 100% Thai but standard bog food.

I think hawker space too much at a premium so there is no large group of hawkers like old. Lots of one off restys. Good food.

Yarowat is <deleted>.

Well i don't eat there and can't even read any banner on the restaurants/foodtrucks there. No idea what food they're selling but it looks fun there, just very simple restaurants built from seacontainers with roofterraces and so...it's fun...it's something like kao san road but more asian style and cheaper and no dreadlocked beggars from W-Europe. There are no westerners at all..

Really? a large variety of food all in one area as I suggested? Please do educate this idiot and give me two examples.

'Street food' is food, made the same way with the same ingredients, apart from the location, isn't it?  Food is sold by restaurants all over the city with many varieties available, they are displayed on menus.

You are talking the Owl Market next to Central? Near MRT Yaek Nothanburi? Tasty food there.

No Idea, if you are in the bts the market is on the left side of Central...there you have to cross the road and that's it...it's a huge market. Especially in the dry season it's crowded, i think many vendors come from upcountry and sleep/live there all weekend.

Don't go there by car though! To get out of this place can be very very hard.

Yeah thats the market. Damn, I think I need another trip out there, it was pretty cool. Its easy to get to, I dont drive anyway.

The Tawanna Market near the Mall at Bang Kapi is pretty good, and I read there is a good market area called Soi Chok Chai in Lad Prao. The food up at the Nothanburi Pier Market is good too, thats a cool wet market. The Food Market on Koh Ket is great but its packed. The food at the floating markets IN TOWN is usually pretty good, I dont know about that toruist one they take you too.

Bear in mind one thing: all street food in BKK is unhealthy and contaminated, due to the fact that it's prepared on the street and constantly bombarded with vehicle fumes for hours on end. Quite apart from that, the amount of salt, MSG and other harmful additives in Thai street food will kill you sooner or later. Aside from that, yes, a lot of it is tasty, so enjoy and eat up, knowing that eating Thai street food daily will save you a ton of money because you'll be dead 10 years earlier than if you got your wife to make healthy, home-cooked food or splashed out a bit and ate in non-cheap-charlie classy restaurants. The streets of BKK are some of the most unhealthy in the world, so it stands to reason that the food prepared on them, and left to sit there for hours and hours every day in 35-degree heat and a fug of vehicle emissions is going to be veritable smorgasbord of harmful chemical particles and a fertile growth medium for pathogenic microorganisms. Don't let this put you off though, it still tastes delicious, is cheap and will fill up your stomach, but the massive amount of salt in it will also dehydrate you, so make sure you wash it down with a hazardous chemical-filled cold Beer Chang topped up with a generous scoop of faecal matter-containing ice cubes at the same time.

Although not on the street, these 2 courts can't get much more central and will have a lot of of choices

Silom Square Food Center

Food + Plus

Silom Square is great. I usually go there in the morning, it has a great coffee shop and is home to my juice pusher.

Pratunam Night market is also packed with (street) food.

Yeah its great innit? I have been exploring new ways to find good food like you describe. While I used to rely on lines of Thais waiting, now I look for fat, well fed rats. Best way for quality.

PS: The stalls under the overpasses and bridges get their better flavour from the cement dust. Just like real Khao Poon with that dose of Limestone.

Yeah there is some super good food there, but too "touristy". Alwys cheaper to be in a place where you are the only white face.

I was talking to a neighborhood chick about fruit and I mentioned to her that they sell Langsats for 500/baht a kilo in lower Suk, but they are only 20 baht a kilo here. Her reply was classic: "Location".

There is one place I wouldnt eat: Soi Nana. Probably the most disgusting night food street in the history of mankind

Is Owl Market only Friday and Saturdays?  Are there any beer promo bars over there or is is better to just buy a cold one at 711 and hunt for a good girl or bad girl, depending on your tastes?

Just because you're a member of the clergy doesn't mean you need to have such a holier-than-thou attitude.
