Most countries have police responsible for tracking citizens trying to hide. Probably he wasn't careful and used his home WIFI to send an email to one of his family members. That mailbox was monitored by US police so they found his IP and used that to determine his exact location. Or maybe after 4,5 years on the run he wasn't careful anymore and posted something on Facebook or another social media platform. That platform gave the IP he used to post to the police in the US. Or maybe that platform even had his exact location because his phone (GPS) reported the exact location.  If you want to hide it is best not to use internet or contact old friends/relatives. Even using fake names on social media will not help if you become friends with relatives and friends from the past.

 

Probably Thai police didn't do anything. They just went to the address the "department of Homeland Security Investigations of the USA" gave them.

7-elevens are using facial recognition and AI. Maybe they share their database with Thai law enforcement and Homeland Security shares their data for wanted suspects believed to be in Thailand. Not too much of a stretch. If it isn't happening yet it will be in the future.

It's a joke.  They scanned his fingerprints, then scanned them again and the first scan matched the second scan.  Do keep up!
