My licence renewal story

Day 1 just prior to expiry
As advised visted LTO Chiang Rai Province to request a letter for immigration

They handed me a letter inviting Immigration to confrim my visa

Day 2 paid Immigration 200 baht fee they promise to ring to collect
Day 7 Collected letter by hand , no post requested or used either way.
Day 10 Return for tests at 0820 sharp

In addition to every possible document the very friendly staff requested 2 copies of everything as I wanted both bike and truck , copyshop over the rd 10 baht
Including interestingly my wife's ID and housebook  (I'm on a married visa")
They refrained from adding a 12th copy of my passport to their collection, perhaps their filing cabinet overfloweth

The tests
1 Strings now replaced by a control box for depth of vision you push forward and back buttons to align the posts
2 Colour Blind simpler than before lady just pointed at 5 dots, on previous occasions it was numbers
3 Peripheral vision had to stoop as designed for dwarfs and depsite maximum height I was too big for the slot...
4 Brake pedal test/ reaction speed you are allowed a few goes and I watched the others who seem to keep going until they passed, everyone of us proceeded to the MOVIE !
---------------------------------------------------------
The 60 minute film introduced by a non driving monk, everyone except me was playing with phones throughout, despite satff warning, one gent was asleeep with head on the table!

At least I know my cadastrals and not to allow more than one pillion person.
Interesting that while upsetting unmentionables have dire consequences driving a dangerous vehicle has a max 500 baht fine, explains a lot
--------------------------------------------------------------------
They took 2 new photos and good to go for 6 years minus a few days as I was tested a few days after my birthday

Fee 760 (505 + 255) out the door at 1025 perfect for opening time, last time took all morning.Time for a new chauffer's cap

Nice report. Apart from 'confirming your visa' did the Immigration letter also confirm your address (in the absence of a yellow book or work permit)?

Please explain more about the truck licence. What maximum weight? How many axles? I was not aware a commercial vehicle/vocational licence of any sort was available to a Farang.

Sorry to clarify my wife calls our pick up "the truck" .

I did not visit immigration in person  I had the letter delivered and they called my wife to collect it.

Interestingly as my visa is the non O married they requested 2 copies of wifes ID and Blue House Book for the first time.

RTO had my address as it was the same on my old licences

Thanks for the explanation. I guess you had meant to say bike and car licence.
