I think this treaty is long dead but does anyone know if one can hold property through this?

I'd read it was just sort of existing in limbo. It won't be renewed evidently but not been cancelled. Like that...

Any other ways Americans can own land other than the standard corporation route?

Thanks

Despite the Treaty of Amity, there are still certain restrictions on U.S. investment as follows:

Owning land;

Engaging in inland transportation and communication industries;

Engaging in fiduciary functions;

Engaging in banking involving depository functions;

Engaging in domestic trade in indigenous agricultural products;

Exploiting land or other natural resources

The treaty is not dead although there's some in Thai government would like to see it go. An "Amity" company cannot own land, only a "Thai" company can. We Americans cannot own land in Thailand.

Although many have tried.

Yes you can under the treaty, there are requirements such as a ratio of Thai employees to "other" employees.

You can if you are covered by the Amity Treaty.

BUT, some industries / occupations are restricted to Thai only.

Their are ways around the Thai only, but involve MASSIVE MONEY INVESTMENT and EXTREME LEGAL paperwork.

Here is a question for the forum. I am an American citizen but I used another passport when I applied for my visa (retirement). Thus I am stuck with a visa in a passport from a country that does nothing to help its citizens.

What does it take to change the visa into my American passport?

Leave Thailand and get a new visa in you're other passport!
