This IS a Thai bashing post - don't read on if you are not prepared to get on the said bandwagon.

Could be the Thai sense of private space.

Try this out.

Go the movies and pick seats in an empty theater.

Thais come later. Book right next to you.

Makes sense?

I also find that urinal etiquette is not observed here ...

'It happens in every country' (haven't read the thread so far but figured this the go to response !!!)...

Saw the workman yesterday trying to remove a nail with the saw he just happened to have at hand... (there, am I getting it yet?)

This morning on a smallish soi (two way traffic) a bicycle pulled out across traffic, this must have surprised the guy riding it as he was nearly hit by the guy coming the other way and then myself (I can guess why his grin was toothless, as it wouldn't have been the first time his wayward bicycle placed him in such danger).

I can go on, and on... yes, and on some more...  but we all love it here really, for all its faults Thailand is still a great place to be especially when you have the very same discussion with Thai's who themselves 'bash away' at the very same issues with which we [westerners] view with nothing other than pure incredulity....

This guy wouldn't be smart enough for that.

Uh-huh,

He completely perplexed you.

Why? Sweet Jasus, why?

While he's at home having a bit of a chuckle at it.

You're uptight, actively asking people on the internet about what happened. ????

You are giving him far too much credit. He didn't know if a Thai or a foreigner owned the bike. Car park was empty when I went in. Was trying to get through one little post with tongue in cheek dig at the digonels, but the Thai apologist has arrived. Thanks for that. ????

Yep, just a little bit of fun at the local's expense. Have lived here 15 years and still like it here, but it's the occasional thing like this that reminds me where I am.

Unfortunately the Thai apologists are already here on this OP and it won't be long before it's closed. Sad really. ????

Why would he care if you were Thai or Foreign.

Though he's laughing even harder tonight because you are just a farang. He's still laughing now.

If only he knew you were still so upset about it come midnight, oh man oh man, you'd have made his year. ????

Meanwhile, you're still apparently confused over it all. ????

Fret not, Jesus is known to be forgiving.

Jasus, on the other hand, he might not be so nice.

This kind of thing isn't just Thai, it's regional.  Malaysia, Indonesia, VN, China... Seems that concern for others just doesn't occur to many in this culture.

I would love to understand it. ????

Cars get lonely too...

If you park them close together they can have a chat about..somtam or winning lottery numbers... whilst you are inside doing the shopping.

Thais live in a bubble. They have limited awareness of their surroundings or people around them. It's just something to get used to.

I had similar when living in Chiang Rai, virtual empty car park, twice in a month same car goes out of its way to park right next to ours. I know it wasnt a mistake or casual the second time as I dont park closest to an entrance but a walk away.

Anyways the second time I took proper note of the car, its reg etc, couldnt really miss it as it had some stickers on that made it quite unique. Once paying attn I often saw the car about often around the market Just a regular thai man mid 40s nothing out of the ordinary about him, anyways just for the fun of it whenever possible id park right next to or bumper to bumper close. At some point we became quite good out and about waving and smiling friends and often found one parked next to the other. Once I left a cold bottle of water on his bonnet just as I left, After that from time to time one of us would leave a present for the other on bonnet or roof, usually when near the market tomatoes or cucumber, nam prik, sweets stuff like that.

It was a strange relationship, never talked to each other and never did find out why he did the parking bit to begin with. I still think of him with fondness and a smile though.

Catch yourself on, will ya.

You seriously think that I am that Annoyed?

I thought it was apparent in the tone of the post that it's all funny.

Seems you are definitely confused.

This OP is an attempt at light humour.

Take yourself away on somewhere else where you can play your silly games. ????

The next day and still going on about it. ????

yes, inconsiderate double parking and the issue of not respecting right of way in traffic are the two things that are getting on me

here drivers/riders like to park as close as possible to where they are going so they dont have to walk as far, double parking on the roadway is always happening for the same reason when there are car parks only a few meters away.  Its just something you get used to living here, whether its laziness or simply ignorance it will continue to happen, you just have to accept it

Some think its the end of the world to have to walk 20 metres.

Most Thai do.

"So What!!!!"....  That was the response given to me by a friends Wife when I pointed out 'you can't just stop here, you'll block everyone else' - my Wife and I looked at each other in astonishment, but this interaction helped me understand a lot of what happens in Thailand.

When someone wants to pop into a 7-11, they just stop outside, nip to the ATM, just park outside, pop into Big-C, double part in front of your car, Pull up at Tesco's on their bike, park so close to your bike you can't get back on without burning your leg on their exhaust or uprighting your bike to get it off the side stand.....   There is an endless amount of "So-What !!!!"

I call it the 'Couldn't give a F£$K switch' and plenty of people here walk, ride and drive around with the ''Couldn't give a F£$K switch' fully engaged - the only thing to do is either go mad or engage the switch yourself.

My chickens have stopped laying too, but I won't bore the forum with that! ????

(Please Note: No Thai's were bashed in this post!)

The safest option being staying at home and complain on TVF, as i wouldn't advise anyone to go mad or engage that switch :whistling:

Tesco Rayong, I park all the way back from the store where all the places are empty and then you come out and find someone has parked in the next place to you even though all the other spaces are empty. My wife asks why do you get mad because they can park anywhere and I reply the whole fking strip is empty except for our car!. Please can someone explain the mentality as to me it looks personal.

Maybe it was just another sociopathic farang that also likes to park miles away from the door?

You know, the "I want to be alone" in a land of 70-odd million sort of pillock?

It looks like it in Thailand, I see cars going around the car park till they can get close to the entrance. for me it's quicker parking further away and walking instead of like these people driving around looking for a space.

Just like millions of American shopping mall parking lot trawlers do every day. We used to say they'd bring their cars inside if we let them!

Pull your cock out and start waving it about. They'll soon bvgger off.

Works for me anyway.

Most Thai do.

Most farangs who can't get a parking space fail to consider that by the simple percentages of how many Thais there are behind a wheel in Thailand versus how many farangs there are behind a wheel in Thailand, the odds are stacked heavily against them finding one.

Then they take it personally.

I think the OP's experience is a normal occurrence in LOS.....
