Can anybody tell me the official Taxi Meter rates for Pattaya?

My family are staying in Jomtien with me and today we decided to visit Sai Kaew Beach, (the navy beach) my girlfriend and I went in the car but as there are 4 of them they decided to stop a taxi on beach road south Jomtien. As usual he refused to start the meter and agreed a price of 200 baht. We set off me in my car the taxi following as we got through Na Jomtien he suddenly stopped at the side of the road for maybe 2 or 3 minutes, I waited then we continued to our destination. When we pulled off the main road to collect the permits from the military office I asked why they had stopped. My son told me that he refused to go any further till they agreed to pay him 500 baht. After a large confrontation I told my son to pay him only the 200 baht he originally agreed which he did and they all climbed into my car and we carried on to the beach. Upon our return I checked the distance from the point of pick up to the point off drop off and it was 15.5 kilometers. I know 200 baht sounds cheap but to quote that price get them in the middle of nowhere and threaten to leave them if they didn't pay 2 1/2 times the original agreed amount is absolutely ridiculous. I have photos of both the driver and the cat with registration number. My family come here to visit me every year for their annual holiday but now say that this is the last time they are coming to Thailand as the rip off's are getting worse each year. So I would like to know First of all is it permissible to post the pictures?

Can anybody tell me the official Taxi Meter rates for Pattaya?

Does anybody have a phone number to complain about these rip off merchants.

It's no wonder farangs are staying away.

Sounds like he made a mistake and then realized that it was going to be a lot further than he thought... I would say let it go... but surely, find out from others what a normal rate might have been...

Sometimes you have to have some pity, if he was a math genius, he probably would not be driving a taxi... he might be a new driver, who knows.. let it go. You have possibly made mistakes at times too.

In Bangkok, it's normal that the taxi's uses the meter and no <deleted> (well okay somtimes), just been on a mini holiday there with my family and we didn't have any.

In the holiday resort areas the taxi's have a very bad reputation, Phuket likely the worst.

500 baht to get transported in a taxi app 15km is very cheap compared to many places in the EU so not something that would make me stopping coming to Thailand if it was me.

Personally, I'm always amazed at how cheap the taxis are here. Basically, you have to know the route to where you're going, but with google maps that's not really a problem anymore. 10 years and only one bad experience, and that was a guy who'd previously worked in Phuket, enough said.

I have no idea what Pattaya taxi metered rates are, it is well known that metered taxi does not exist in Pattaya.

200 - 300 baht is what blue and yellow taxi charge for Avenue Pattaya to Jomtien trip. Same trip on motorbike taxi 80 - 100.

do a grab next time. likely cheaper anyhow and you can just pay the app. any problems the driver likely loses his job.

I would expect closer to 500 baht on a Grab. I use them for a 12-13km trip often and the fare comes up as 400 baht. I sometimes find a taxi but there it is haggling around 400-500.

Nothing new wrt taxis stopping and trying to extort more money,  but his original 200 was a lowball figure.

consider the aggravation this bloke went through over a couple hundred baht, arguing with the driver, putting his safety at risk, ruining his trip, wasting time negotiating price and directions with some moron how never graduated high school.

just do a grab, its worth it and your on gps so if anything happens you have a record on your phone and the driver and vehicle can be tracked.

Yeah, 200 Baht was way too cheap, the driver must have been high on something when he quoted you that. Even using Grab, just to get from my house on Thepprasit to my favourite restaurant on Soi Lengkee costs over 200 Baht, and that's just a few klicks. I think the GF paid 350 Baht to get from the house to Nong Nuch gardens a while back using Grab, so around 500 Baht to Sattahip sounds about right to me.
