You'll know this Taddy. There are loads of different 'types' of scouse accent. Some, even I fail to understand, like when it's very gutteral and fast with a certain use of the vernacular. I wonder how many people will understand what I mean?

I know what you mean, Toxteth and Croxteth are not that far apart (in spelling or location) but the vocab can be completely different. But, you can say the same about parts of Ireland too :o

Good point. After I typed 'Liverpool is just a city' I thought it might be misconstrued! I meant just a city as opposed to a country. I think Liverpool is the best city in the UK!

so, to bring this back on topic, is there a lot of oral sex in Liverpool?

I'm sure no more, or less, than any other city!

However, let me share with you joke that I heard at a comedy night last week in Liverpool. The comedian, stage name 'Our David'. He says...

On my way here I walked through the red light district. It's not on the way, I just like the view. Anyway, I heard a voice behind me saying, "£30 for oral sex, £30 for oral sex." well I turned around and there was a young girl, maybe 14 or 15 years of age. I couldn't believe it, that's disgusting isn't it ladies and gentlemen? And of couse, a few people are saying, 'Yeah'.

Then he says, 14 or 15 years of age and charging full adult prices!!!

Broke me up!

Just spoke to a friend of mine from Holland (yeah, so many Dutch people speak loads of languages). So I asked him how many he spoke. He said "Six fluently, several more conversationally, and Chinese to a basic 'greetings' level. He's just started doing business in China and although he uses a translator, he's learned the essentials of greetings, how's the family etc. No wonder his business is booming!

Being Dutch myself, I know that quite a few Dutch people speak several languages -meaning 2 or maximum 3-...but not "loads of languages".

I'm talking educated people here; but the vast majority of Dutch can manage just a bit in German and a little better in English.

The latter is because 100% of the -US/English/Australian- movies/shows in Holland on Television are subtitled in Dutch and thus the watchers pick-up automatically a lot of English.

German speaking countries synchronise their English programs in German and we have only few programs or shows in German.

As a matter of fact learning/studying foreign languages is declining a bit due to the educational system in Holland. I speak/write and read quite a few foreign languages myself and, having the pleasure of being married to a Chinese Lady :o and doing business there for many years, I pick up a few words of Mandarin....but speaking Mandarin (not to talk about reading :D ) is a heck of a job, I tell you.

I know, I should study more, but simply don't have the time for it :D

But, some people are gifted and speak (more or less) many languages, but to speak, write and read them fluently is something else.

Lao Po, my friend is 55 years of age and very educated. He came from a wealthy family. He is very well travelled and, of course, likes to learn the languages of the countries he visits. He does (unlike the Brits and Irish! Sweeping state coming...) like to comunicate in the local language ot the countries he visits. I have not spoken to him about the written language, however, if it served his purpose, I'm sure he would give it a good effort.

I also think he is gifted (not his assesment) in languages as I spent some time with him in his factory in Dublin and he had phone conversations in at least 5 languages that I noticed!

ps I didn't know you were Dutch!

:D Sorry Suegha, if you took it personally, about your friend; I didn't mean to 'address' you or your friend personally.

But, I believe you. There are indeed fellow countrymen/women who do speak more than 3 languages, I know. I just wanted to express that quite a few Dutch do indeed speak their languages quite well, but 'loads of languages' is a bit overdone.

The common man-in-the-street maybe manages to speak a little bit of German* and English, but fluent......no.

The educated ones do speak German and English -besides Dutch- quite well, but when it comes to French, Spanish and Italian or Portugese....it will become more a matter of higher language education.

:D Yes, I'm Dutch....but a Flying Dutchman :D I feel more like a World Citizen.

* Tonight there was a report on Dutch televison, saying that Germany overtook France as the major holiday destination. It showed Dutch people on holiday in Germany....speaking German....it was quite funny actually to hear those Dutch talk in German.

You should hear the Dutch talk French in France :o

Thanks, Lao Po.

Look at that little Gorgon in waiting, ready to pounce on prey. Ah, makes my heart go aflutter.

Maybe take the young'uns away as soon as they are born, LP. Give Tiggy some stuffed toys to shred.

I will name my prodigy Siao Bam Bam. I can't wait. I am buying a Tiffany's diamond collar, den bed, raw antelope meat, and Lion King video tomorrow in preparation of her arrival.
